Green horse poo

Ok, I rode my bike over 30 miles to a ranch and got a giant bag full of horse poo, very fresh horse poo. The horses were really nice and liked being petted, by the way, and I *did* thank them and tell them why I was taking the poo (the horses, keep in mind, not the ranch owners)). Anyways, 2 questions. The poo is very very green, is this normal? Is that going to be better/worse/neutral? Another thing, in pavlov's/roadkill's horse poo tek, it makes mention you must dry the poo. This doesn't make sense to me, since you are pastuerizing it in water anyways. The temps are cooling down quit a bit, making it a little harder for me to dry poo. not to mention, i live in a small apartment, and i have a plastic bag with poo on it right at my doorstep. I have been telling people it makes for good fertilizer, since I have a lot of plants in here. It still sucks having a pile of fresh, bright green horse poo on your doorstep. Any help is appreciated...

The poo is green because of what they ate and the freshness of the poo. The poo needs to be dried to leach it, which rids the poo of harmful ammonia from pee. So by drying, what you are doing is rinsing the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher. If you can find a little sunny spot, which shouldn't be hard given your location, just put the poo on a tarp, as illustrated in Road's Tek, and let it sit out for at least a couple of days.

Oh, that makes oodles of sense. the fact you are drying it of ammonia should be noted in the tek. Otherwise it makes no sense to dry it. It has been outside for 3 days now, drying nicely, I just rotated it again to get everything exposed. It doesn't really stink anymore either.... Thanks!!

Good, thats the point. If you dry your poo out good, it will not stink like poo when you pasteurize, it'll have a deep earthy smell. Good Luck
