duh.  I don't know how people don't get this.

I lost 30lbs in 6weeks doing 1.5hr exercise/day and eating healthy.  Shit isn't hard, people just always look for the 'easy way'.

If it's easy, it probably isn't working.

THIS! My workout is normally somewhere around an hour and a half. I start with a good warm up bike ride of 30 minutes, I then proceed to my step walker and do a "cooldown" for about 10 minutes, it helps alot. Then I go to a faster paced 20 minutes. After cardio I pick up some weights.

People say you can't get ripped if you do a lot of cardio, but I disagree. As long as your heart rate isn't going above <140>? you aren't burning any muscle off. I keep my heart rate at a constant 120-130 when working out. Eat relatively healthy, drink plenty of water and get plenty of vitamins and in no time you'll see RESULTS. REAL RESULTS, and you'll hate yourself for not doing it sooner. It's hard at first to start, but when you get going it becomes easy! Just have to have some dedication and stick with it.

I also participate in kickboxing.

In essence, losing weight involves exercising regularly (and vigorously), eating tasteless, healthy food, and the discomfort of starving.  Not a fun process, and certainly not easy.

You do not have to eat tasteless food or starve yourself in any way in order to lose weight.  It does not have to be boring or grueling.  My workouts are fun, but they weren't before I discovered kettlebells.  After only a month or so, I found it a lot easier to do my routine than to neglect it.  The only real 'grind' is the first few weeks, when good habits are still forming.  After that it becomes self-sustaining, if it is an effective program.

Finding a fun way to get in shape is so important.  I tried a lot of workouts that I never enjoyed, and I never got anywhere with them.

A fun work out is important. If you want to be healthy and thin then its simple really- as the op says- its not magic.

Here is the formula:

3500 k calories = one pound of human body fat (read as "calories" on any nutrition label)

The average person who is overweight and gaining weight consumes about 21,000 calories a week.
The average person that maintains a healthy weight eats 14,000 k cals per week. that leaves 7000 calories!
As said earlier, fat people burn more cal's per hour than thin ones, so by eliminating half of the 7000 calorie overage (3500) calories, you will loose a pound a week till you reach a healthy weight; for males around 18 % body fat. At that point you have to work out more to change your shape.

What does that mean for you if you want to loose weight?
Try eliminating one or two food items that you consume on a daily basis and eat like you normally would other wise.
I personally was eating 3500 calories worth of french-fries and pop in a week. I switched to iced tea / water and gave up the fries. There was no hunger or missing the pop after a week and day to day life improved just by eliminating those addiction.

people think that nothing will happen for them, but the truth is even a minimum effort over 3-6 weeks can make you a healthier, more fit person.

I've always been thin, and still am - my BMI is hovering around 21. But usually I'm underweight for my height. My whole life I've been at 17. This year I underwent a failed experiment with anti-depressants and gained a whole 25 pounds. It sucks. I didn't eat any differently, but my body processed the food differently, or something.... and I just gained weight. A lot of people get crazy fat on behavioral meds. One of my friends was on anti-convulsants for seizures and gained something like 250 pounds.... eventually she just said fuck it, the seizures are minor and infrequent enough that she'd rather deal with them than diabetes.

Also, I switched birth control once when I was 20 and LOST 25 pounds. Hormones have a HUGE impact on your weight. If your body is retaining water or salvaging every little bit of fat because of the amount of estrogen in your system, it's really hard to lose that extra weight. Boobs retain fat like crazy - they're built to do that - as do most womens' thighs.

Of course, I'm talking under 50 pounds of weight, not 200 or something. But most young people struggle with just a few extra pounds, not anything quite so drastic.

Edit: btw OP, thanks for posting that link. Much appreciated.

250lbs!  Jesus, I'd definitely rather convulse than be that large.

I had to take opiates (percs) after orthopedic surgery (2 shattered bones in my foot after a bad work injury) and it made me constipated beyond belief. So yeah, meds can change your body.
