You can't lose weight, seriously?
    #9865973 -

There's a simple science to losing weight.

I'm getting so tired of these people I know saying they can't lose weight.
These are regular build people that have picked up some lbs, no genetic problems or anything like that.
It's so simple to lose weight, there's a pure science to it that's the only thing proven to actually work.
I can attest to this, because I gained 35 lbs after being forced to lay on a couch for 6 weeks after a bone shattering injury/surgery, took me 4 months to lose 35 lbs with no crazy diet or running marathons.

The simple science is, you have to burn more calories than you consume... plain and simple.
The average human burns around 2000 calories a day, just by existing... even if you lazed in bed all day, you'd still burn around 2000 calories.
Fat people are more fortunate in this case because they burn about 2200-3000 a day depending on weight/age etc, meaning they can actually eat more than a skinny person and not gain weight.

There's no miracle diet or fad exercise program that is gonna help you.

If you eat 3000 calories in a day, you have to burn 3000 calories... if you are 6'2 male weighing 220 lbs, 2200 calories are already burned for you just by breathing... the other 800 can be burned in a half hour bike ride at 12mph.

If you don't want to gain weight, don't go over your calorie budget, if you want to lose weight, you simply have to consume less than 2000 calories a day, or burn off more than you consume by exercising.

There, the secrets out, now all you fat kids get to it.

go here http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/blcalcalc.htm

type in the information accurately, and see how many calories you're allowed in a day, if you want to lose weight, eat less calories than that, if you want to stay the same weight... eat the equal amount.

duh.  I don't know how people don't get this.

I lost 30lbs in 6weeks doing 1.5hr exercise/day and eating healthy.  Shit isn't hard, people just always look for the 'easy way'.

If it's easy, it probably isn't working.

What I love is when people claim that they tried this and it just doesn't work, they can eat next to nothing and still gain weight.

As though they, through some miracle of poor genetics, are a living violation of the laws of thermodynamics.

I like these people that buy these expensive food programs... you fill out your age, weight and gender and they send you 2 weeks of food for $200

The only thing they did is pack a suitcase and a program chart full of bullshit that just has food with less calories than you're allowed.

There's no miracle there, just consuming less than your caloric need.

Oh, and fat pills, diet pills... if you're that lazy and gluttonous, you deserve to be fat.

Uh, simple. But then you have to count calories, which takes some effort, and I think that's called dieting? People know dieting makes you lose weight.

i used to work with a guy who was clueless as to why he was overweight and a diabetic.  he used to eat a honeybun with butter on top and wash it down with a 20 oz dr. pepper EVERY break.  he'd say shit like, " i really don't eat that much."

i tried explaining it  to him once, but he was too busy watching sportcenter in the break room.

Everything is a diet...  you don't even really have to count the calories precisely... you just have to not be an idiot.
And really, if you can't take that little bit of time it takes to do 12 seconds of adding for your own health and well being...  you're probably not worth being healthy anyway.

What a lot of people fail to realize is that exercising makes you feel great. I used to run every day and while I would usually have to force myself to go to the gym, I knew that when I was finished I would feel amazing.

The other thing is if you want to lose weight you don't even need to join a gym, you can just go run outside. Really you have no excuse.

My girlfriend joined a gym... was gung ho about it for 3 weeks then stopped going. Gyms are for people like athletes that are specifically trying to build their bodies up... regular people that want to lose a little weight are definately better off walking, jogging or do what I do and hit the East Coast Greenway  (a continuous 2,500 mile bike trail from georgia to maine)

Word. Exercise is difficult for the first couple of weeks while you're getting back into it, but once you get a routine down, it's so rewarding.
I feel bad for people who are missing out on feeling good naturally.

When I'm not in a good routine I'll make excuses to not exercise,
but once I'm back in shape, I hate missing a day.
It keeps me sane.

I feel that, I usually take a break during the coldest months, but I do the bike trail pretty much every sunday and sometimes on friday in the spring summer and fall... 30-50miles... and if I know I'm gonna be drinking a lot and going to a cook out glutton fest, I do 75miles on the greenway.

Exercise is definately the best pain killer/anti-depressant.

actually, the majority of the calories you burn throughout the day are spent regulating your body temperature, not breathing :awesome: (excluding periods of high physical activity). that's according to my physics lab instructor at least.

you're right tho, losing weight isn't too difficult. you just have to have the willpower to keep up healthy eating habits.

I can't get below 230 and it's pissing me off. I lift weights 5 times a week tho, and all the fat i had from 5 years of sitting around and gaming all the time is mostly muscle now. I have only lost 20 pounds in 4 months, but i think thats because i am more focused on lifting than i am running or karate. I still run and practice karate, but not as much as i should. I really am going to get into gear when spring hits tho, because i can mountain bike and hike everyday again. I love hitting the trails and just running through the woods. I really hate the tread mill because i am just board as hell staring at a tv or the wall.

I might not be losing alot of weight like i wanted to, but i am getting built like hell lol. 230 and not alot of fat makes a big guy. I really am hoping to kick it into gear this summer with more cardio outside. I want to get at least to 210. If i could get to 210 i would be happy to stay right there.

There can be more than just burning more than you take in. If you burn too much, or are eating calories at a deficit to your BMR, your metabolism will slow down to keep you alive because it thinks your ass is starving to death.

There are people who will be overweight and eat 700 calories a day - I was one of those people. I saw a nutritionist and he ended up putting me on a 1600 calorie a day diet and hell if I didn't start dropping pounds. You really shouldn't go below 1200 calories a day - and that's AFTER exercise. So if you eat 1200 and then burn 200 with exercise, eat 200 more to bring yourself up to 1200 net.

But yeah, if you eat below your BMR, you'll lose weight. End of story. Just don't eat too far below it or you'll screw yourself over.

Not really. Gyms are for people that have some dedication and will power whether it is somebody trying to lose weight or whatever their goal may be. Most endeavors regarding the physical aren't necessarily easy to accomplish although they are considerably well worth the effort.
