Need help positive IDing: Aminita Pantherina?
    #980763 -

Ok guys I am pretty sure this is either A. pantherina or a light variation of A. Muscaria, right? no chance of being a deathcap or Destroying Angel right? They were all three growing toether in a little group, under some trees in the woods. I know pantherina is spose to be rare in Tennessee? Anyway, Im not trying to be a jerk or anything, but could you guys help quick  I'm really wanting to try these out. Oh yeh, the veil on the big guy isnt spose to be that low, it fell down upon picking, it was at the place all the other veils are. Thanks a bunch guys )

Don't mess with them.

They are too questionable looking.

Whoa.. those dont look so much like pantherinas to me, man.. I might be wrong, I'm no expert by any means, but wait on those till you get a good ID.

One of the most important parts for identification of Amanitas is the volva and shape of the base of the stem.

Those are definitely not Amanita pantherina. Those volvas are consistent with Amanita muscaria var. alba, but the stem base with the radicating point looks longer than usual, so I wouldn't bet my life on it.

Here are some photos of Amanita muscaria (by the expert on the genus, Dr. Tulloss). Note the appearance of the volva (forming rings of tissue on the stem as in your specimens). Also note (in the left photo) that they have very slightly pointed, rooting (radicating) stem bases.

Your mushrooms are probably Amanita muscaria var. alba, but the unusual stem bases leave me uncertain.

Happy mushrooming!

I was doubting the A. Pantherina ID myself, after I read that muscaria could be white. I have really read up on Aminita highs and would really like to try these guys, if they are the right kind, but rest assured, I will NOT until i get a positive ID. I Like you guys because you seem like you care if I ate the wrong one and died.. you guys seem to really care about the people on this forum... I love this place... i love you guys.. you guys rock  I'm messed up right now  lol... not on shroons however :frown: I wish I where... So if there is anyone out there who can 100% ID these (and considering Toxicman is one of the msartest dudes ive seen on here and he can't 100% it, i doubt there is) please speak up. Looks like it's to the waste basket with these boys :frown:

Here's my advice: Do not eat an Amanita until you learn how to spell it correctly. I'm not messing with you, just asking you to slow down a little.

i know how to spell it, jerk. I was, and still am, a little messed up when i posted. i just said i'm not taking it till i positively identify it didn't I? you dont have to be such an ass, and no, I'm not moving too fast, I have been studying about amanita's for awhile now, but nevertheless, I'm not going to take it without a pos. ID. So don't diss my messed up spelling :P
