Need a positive ID
    #2747170 - 05/30/04 04:59 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

I need an id on these mushrooms that I found this morning. They have brown gills and a black spore print. Some of the caps are a light brown with a darker brown ring around the edge while some are a darker brown with an even darker brown ring. Stems are about 3 inches long and the caps are about 1/2 inch or more across.

Shroomie of Doomie, watch the mis-information.

You said
Quote:

but ive seen a few pan foes drop black spore prints too

If it dropped black spores than it was not Panaeolina foenisecii.

And it shows you do not know very much about the physiological and morphological makeup of mushrooms or the generas and what species belong in each individual one.

You continue to do this and while I understand you are trying to be helpful, soem of your comments and advice could cause someone to eat something deadly through your carefully worded "I think it is a G...... or I was going to say that. If you are not a longtime student of mycology, which we here all know you are not, then it is not wise to try to advise people about something you really have no knowledge of.

Please try to refrain from giving advise because it is dangerous according to your own statements in your posts.

Here is another example of what I am trying to relay to you.

you said, also in the sameparagraph:
Quote:

heres a good way to tell the difference between pan subs and pan foes, and thats pan subs have a thicker stem and bruise, unlike pan foes.

bruise what? That makes no sense.

All mushrooms bruise when you damage their flesh.

AS DO All humans WHO ALSO CAN bruise when their flesh is also damaged.

You said bruise. What does that mean?
and Panaeolina foenisecii stems do bruise after human handling and/or damage to their flesh, just as a Panaeolus subblateatus does.

Now if you were impluying that pan subs bruise blue, than again you do not know what you are taking about.

One in five hundred may have some blue in the stem but hardly noticible to anyone because they bruise reddish-brown which is the coloration of their stem. With verticle groves spiraling up and down the length of the stem and while filaments adorn the bottom portion of hte stem, whereas Panaeolina foenisecii has a redish to straw colored stem which is smooth and n sinewy and which will wrap a round your finger like a piece of string with out breaking and a Panaeolus subbalteatus stem will snap in two if you try to wrap it around your finger.

And Panaeolus subbalteatus may hace soime bluing in the mycelium from where the mushroom stem is separated from the mycelium and it bruises a light azure blue from the shock.

mj

I have given you a warning about this and so has Gumby Dude. Try to clean up your act.

mj

So is it a pan foe, pan sub, or something else. And if it is a pan foe, are pan foes active or not? I've heard different things.

it is hard to say from you picture, it is way to blury. My GUESS is panilonia Foenci(sp?) take a spore print if it is brown it is a panilonia. If it black it is some sort of panalous most likley. You need to read the treads at the top of this forum and repost with more info.
