where should i buy a Vinyl record player?

where and what kind? guitar center tried selling me a turntable and it wasnt too expensive, only 100$ or so. but is there a certain kind i should get? im not that educated on this. and craiglist is barren in regards to this in my area i already tried that.

also i would like to buy nice headphones instead of a soundsystem for it will be cheaper and just as effective. what should i look for in that regards?

this is a nice one. this turntable is nice because it has a built in pre-amp so no other gear is required such as a receiver. this would be great especially if you're only planning on using headphones. turntable is also quite portable. another plus is it can run on batteries.

Make sure it is direct drive if you plan on mixing music.

i have no plans on recording scratching or spinning. but im going to guitar center probly and buying the cheaper turntable basic :smile: jut need to really make a good decision with headphones

you may wish to try your luck with an old, venerable model.  Dual, Thorens, old Sonys, many others were just fantastic.  Be aware that you might have to sink money into a new cartridge/needle, as well.  If you live anywhere but a major city, you may want to check thrift stores, etc.

this is more difficult than i thought.. i cant find a player anywhere that has a headphone output. been to target, guitar center, walmart

If you can find one with a preamp jump on it.

I can recommend some headphones I've been using for about 5 years and they are still strong. The ear cups have finally started to pull away on the inside but it hasn't made them any bit uncomfortable. Plus they are replaceable.

Damn when I bought them they were $99, the price has dropped considerably, $69. Highly recommended, but it's all in your preference.

I got mine at a pawn shop.  are you looking for a record player just to listen to music?  or to be all dj style?  why do you want a headphone socket?  you just need to hook up your record player to the receiver/amp and from there you'd have the headphone socket.

If it has a pre-amp, you can get RCA to 1/8" cables off the shelf for about $10 but your headphones will need to have their own volume control.  (The cheapo models have pre-amps built in because the cheapo recievers that they will be paired with do not feature pre-amped phono terminals)

That said, anything you find at a big box store is not going to be very good.  You should order the little Numark online if you're in a hurry or put together a thrift store classic with a new needle and an antique receiver if you are on a budget.
