Mjshroomer's 1964 Recording- Help Please
    #588855 - 03/25/02 10:47 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

Posted this a long time ago and no one wa able to help. Maybe now would be a better time.

Hello members and others.

Well I am going to let the news out slowly here without shocking too many viewers.

YEs I too have recorded in the past. Even been in several bands in the early and middle 1960s. Most notably, "Dave and the High Priests," "Dave and the Del-Rays" and "Fat Toad and the Stools."

I also acted under the stage name of Johhny York and my only hit was a record called
"Mighty the Squirrel Meets the Beables."

It is a novelty record which I recorded in Chigago in 1964. I did the mixing, did most of the engineering on and recorded and pressed 1000 copies.

It was recorded at 7 1/2 speed on an Ampex 350 and then rerecorded at 15.

It is the adventures of a little flying suirrel named Mighty and he flies to London, England and interviews the Beatles (Beables), spelled so in case of copyright infringements.

Instead of the Beatles actually answering, I used lnes from their songs. Songs excised from Both the Capitol Records Album, "Meet the Beatles" and the companion VJ Records album, "Introducing the Beatles."

I have a kinda scratched 45 RPM of this. At -present, it is the only known copy of my work.

What I am looking for is someone here in the city of Seattle, Washington who knows how to put my 45 RPM onto MPEG so it can be put on the internet to sell. I need someone who knows how to clean the surface scratches of this record.

Can anyone out there help in preserving my memory as musical performer and recorder.

mjshroomer

this is not a joke and is a real accomplishment in my life.

mj

I have a Guess Who cut-in record I bought
by mistake at a pawn shop.

I looked on the internet.
LP2CD
They'll do it for you. $32.95 to make it sound
good and copy it.

A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Turning Old LP's Into New CD's
You could do it yourself too. But it looks all
hard and complex.

Good luck with your thing.

MJ..... I have put my vinyl collection on CD. If your wanting to do it yourself it can be done cheep.. Get yourself Magix Music Maker for $60, it has audio and video editing features. Hook up your stereo to your computer and record, you can save this to wav. or mp3, then insert the track and lay in some video and save the entire thing as an MPEG. Magix Studio has the best recording features and if you want the TOP of the line go with cakewalk steinbergs mastering suite but with that youll need to find a diferent video editor.

As for cleaning your vinyl water works best get a felt vinyl brush or a dust free cloth and youll be fine. Their is no real way to take out the scratches, luckily most of the pops and noises are dust and will come up completely in a few proper cleanings..
If you have other questions about sampleing rate and track mastering just ask.

Gabba, I have the same music program, Magix, I like it so far, it is a little confusing, but I do reccomend it. One question though, how do you convert pre- recorded wave files on the hard disk to mp3?

There are many comercial and free mp3 encoders on the market.
For instance the free Blade encoder: http://bladeenc.mp3.no/

Magix suports Wav file inserts, Just import a WAV, then click save as, check the MP3 file extention and their you go.. YOu can go into your configuration menu to set the birate, add text or insert data files into the MP3.
I especialy like the video editing features, Ive been making MPEG music videos out of everything I can get my hand on...
