It seem as if it would be very easy to keep someone wearing this armor pinned down, simply by firing at them over and over again.

It would also be hard to regain control of your body, and position yourself to return fire, if you were still being fired at, and your suit was still forcing you out of the way.

Frankly I think it would be more useful to make body armor that resists bullets instead of making you jerk around involuntarily.

It'd work as a cohesive battle system...  if you took the human element out of it completely.

I think you guys may be forgetting or not understanding what a typical firefight entails on today's battlefields.  From what I've read or been told by guys who've been there, an average scenario may involve 5-10 soldiers moving in 2 or 3 groups who are fighting insurgents in various numbers.  They may have only 1 guy taking pot shots or 20 trying to ambush them.  Either way, they aren't typically facing sustained fire.  These insurgents will take a few shots, relocate, then try again.

If they were pinning down one group of soldiers, another would flank them to try and get an angle to return fire.  And this was when the fighting was heavier.  I believe most of whats being faced now is a few insurgents taking occasional pot shots or a sniper doing the same.  So in the odd case that your armor was preventing you from being able to return fire, it's very likely that your buddy could or someone in another group could.  In these scenarios, this armor would be highly effective. 

In close quarters combat where you're fighting room to room, probably not so much.  The system wouldn't have time to react.  So, as you suggest, developing more resistant armor is still important and it is being done.  Check out Dragon Skin body armor.

Any way, nothing is going to be 100% effective 100% of the time, but if this can be implemented correctly, it would save lives.
