can someone that has patented something please give me some pointers before i go through the process? i have been inventing for years and have come up with some novel ideas, but this idea is the first that has had me clamoring to get a patent. i will be working with a guy today to set the machine up in autocad. then, i plan on packaging a copy of everything in a sealed box and mailing it to myself to get the poor boys patent. but, that is just to backup my claim if someone steals my idea before i start the patent process.

i plan on talking to a patent attourney when i have everything together, but just wanted to see if any of you guys have gone through the process first.

Patents are expensive :frown:

It took almost 5 years for a friend of mine to have his patent approved.

When you talk to you patent attorney ask him/her about the "patent pending" process.

I can't quite remember if its true, but if you sell or market your product during its patent pending period, if someone copies it, they can get away with it.  Since its basically not approved.

5 years and almost 10k in legal fees.  He's making a mint, but he also had the time and money to do it.

I hope it works out for you.
