Drunk man run over by train awarded $2.3 million
    #9824814 -

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A Manhattan jury awarded $2.33 million to a man who lost his leg after drunkenly stumbling onto the path of an oncoming subway train.
Dustin Dibble fell on New York subway tracks, was hit by a train and had his leg severed in 2006.

Dustin Dibble, 25, landed in the subway tracks after a late night watching a hockey game at a bar with friends April 23, 2006. A downtown N train ran over him, severing his right leg.

According to Dibble's lawyer, Andrew Smiley, NYC Transit rather than Dibble bore primary responsibility for the accident because the subway driver had time to stop the train but did not.

Smiley added that Dibble's drunkenness did not excuse the driver, who said in a court deposition that he mistook Dibble for an inert object.

I don't know about you all but I'd lose a leg for 1 million.

haha money is worth not being able to properly escape danger? Sad thing is millions of people think just like you.

Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say "I think," "I am," but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose.Man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time

With that sort of money I could buy a house to rent out and some sort of robotic limb to take its place.

Sure it's not the same but I'd be lapping it up on some remote island.

We need to seriously revise our laws, If a man does something stupid like falling off a platform into the path of an oncoming train because he was DRUNK Then he should be awarded NOTHING and he should be publicly humiliated for being so fucking stupid.

Well, if the driver had the opportunity to stop and was trained to do so, then yes he does shoulder some of the liability, but c'mon the idiot was drunk and on the damn tracks.

I think a better solution would have been to make the conductor keep the severed leg in his cabin to remind him not to run people over, and the drunk guy should have to live in the subway educating people on the dangers of being a moron.

Oh come on I know some of you would whether you'd admit it or not.

If someone put a million down on your table in cash and said one leg. Fair trade.

Think of that pile of money.

I don't crave riches but that's financial security. Put to good use, that could be you set for the rest of your life.

I surprise myself sometimes.

Been out of work a long time and thoughts like that seem appealing to me. What can I say

1 million will hardly cover the hospital bill, not to mention it's a freaking leg you lost, you will never be the same for the rest of your life.

End the Federal Reserve/audit the gold reserves at Fort Knox, abolish the IRS, end all wars and occupancies, stop the building of an empire that will inevitably fail, and cut all unconstitutional federal programs. Put the power back in the peoples' hands by ending this nanny-state.

2.3 million could get a lot of hookers and coke.  That's pretty much the secret to life.  You don't need legs to know the secret to life.

Story's like these absolutely DISGUST me.

I mean, its like the uhaul story of someone driving behind someone who had rented a uhaul trailer and failed to tie things down properly.... Well, the people driving said uhaul had no money for the "victims" in this case so they decided they would go after uhaul instead. Well they won,(When i hear that an untellable sting of expletives burst forth) and now to rent a uhaul it costs more. I would like nothing more than to go right up to the judge (or jury if that was the case) and kick them repeatedly in the jewels until they die of internal hemorraging.

Seriously though, why the hell do you think this country is so bad off right now? It's because of stupid lawsuits like this which open the door to yet another and then another similar situation. No one is held accountable for their own actions anymore.

I can't wait until the government finally tires of babysitting more than half of the American nation and takes control of everything completely. So this ridiculousness will finally stop. But then we are screwed for what freedoms we still have available to us. (Which from where I'm standing is not very F@#$ING free at all, we are more free than most, but still.

I'd give us 5-10 more years before the current system we are now under fails completely. But i am rather cynical, and extremely distrust almost every form of government there is, so my opinions don't really count for much.
