I can do a mile in about 3:40.....
Thats 3 hours etc.
Stoned, I could probably do a mile in a day or so....  :grin:

I was a competitive runner through H.S. and the little bit of college I have under my belt. I can tell you right now, Prisoner #1, If you graduated in the last 6 years or so, I have heard your name if you ran a 4:06 in any major comp. Competitive endurance athletes deal with pain. I've seen fat little Hopi kids tear it up and run under 15 mins for a 5k.

I havn't ran a step in years. Sometimes I miss it, but then, I remember the 11th lap in a 5k and figure I'm better off missing it. Running is a drug in its own, but getting baked and jogging a few easy miles somewhere pretty is fun.

My advice to anyone that wants to run real fast is to quit smoking anything, start running a ton of mileage, quit your job so you have more time to train, and read everything arthur lydiard ever wrote.
A great competitive athlete has to be truly selfish when it comes to their training. You can't let anything come between you and your goals because if you aren't training in the rain, snow, and 110 degree heat, trust me, your competition is, and they'll thank you on race day.

i kinda like the nice clear-headed feeling after going for a run. if i were stoned, it would be drained and foggy afterwards. also, during the last mile or so of my runs (i do 18-24 miles a week usually), if i push hard, when i do my cool-down walk, i'm high as fuck, just from natural endorphins. biking stoned is pretty sweet though. i'm looking forward to the summer. smoke a bit, drink a cup of coffee, and then lazily cruise town all day on the bike (built myself up a new fixed-gear, so it's extra fun even)
