Looks like some weird albino cube. Leave it alone and see what happens. Pretty crazy. It also could have sprang up from the "wild". I live in a huge suburb and come fall time I see cubes everywhere (I wouldn't eat them, because of all the nasty shit that gets on them). It also looks like it might grow into a monster mushroom.

Why don't people actually read the whole thread before they post?

that's petty cool Veda, i've been throwing stalled, half spent, slightly contaminated cakes and casings in my compost pile. my first three months i had quite a few relative failures and now sometimes when i go hiking and bring them with me to bury along the trail. can't wait to revisit some of the trails.:crazy2: after all it's where they started.:sun:i'm considering starting some extra spawn just for the campgrounds we usually go to.there's nothing wrong with that,...right? i feel like it's a weird idea.:uhoh:

if you've got spawn to spare, why not just bring some fruits with you when you go camping?  it just seems more reliable and you won't have to deal with the bugs

One of the trails that I hike on all the time has a great big cow pasture that it goes right through. I plan to take some extra spwan out there and see if I can't get a few going off to the side there are plenty of old cow pies around. a jar of a bit of sub mix with verm to help with moisture and a jar of spawn lift dump and wait. What the hell it's worth a try. The really cool thing is the pasture has an old stone silo that looks a lot like a rocket ship in it, I will call them my "Stellar Shrooms" if it works.

Hell I am heading out in two weeks for a four day backpacking trip, and plan a trip with in the trip. Will still be pretty frosty out not like last april when I was picking morels the whole time.

Veda keep us posted on how your little compost friend does. From one of your posts I thought he had gotten knocked off but it sounds like he is a tenacious little fellow.

I think it is a good idea. In my opinion, the more active mushrooms in the wild the better.

"The major religions on the Earth contradict each other left and right. You can't all be correct. And what if all of you are wrong? It's a possibility, you know. You must care about the truth, right? Well, the way to winnow through all the differing contentions is to be skeptical. I'm not any more skeptical about your religious beliefs than I am about every new scientific idea I hear about. But in my line of work, they're called hypotheses, not inspiration and not revelation." -- Dr. Arroway Dr. Arroway in Carl Sagan's Contact (New York: Pocket Books, 1985), p. 162.
