This popped up on the compost pile - possible mushroom
    #9761844 -

My mate tried to grow liberty caps out on pf cakes. Lots of contamination and a few colinised cakes plus LC. The cakes obviously didint do anything and everything got tossed into the compost heap. Including some of the liberty cap LC.

Well he noticed this today

The compost heap is made from

old plant material
used verm
used perlite
used soil
general garden waste

with the cakes thrown in it and some lc

:-)

I was cleaning off some mushrooms that I was harvesting and found myself cleaning the casing off the bottom of them and dropping it into my compost bucket with out even thinking about it. I am sure that some of the casing had little chunks of mycelium still in it. I wonder if a similar thing happened and it took hold in your compost. I don't expect it to happen in mine it's too cold here. will be interesting to see what it grows up to be.

Well thats what i thought, it kinda looks like cubensis, but i dont think my friend has dumped any cubensis projecst in it. He did have 1 before i started help him and it never turned out (bad vendor) so maybe he through those on it and there were spores from that grow.

Im going round to see it in a few days :-)

Hes planning on taking a tissue sample and cloning it.

Not much experience but that looks like it could possibly be an albino strain looking from the color. I don't have much experience growing many strains, and this is only from looking at thousands of different pictures of different strains during my research that I came to the albino conclusion. Maybe your friends first try was an albino Penis envy strain.

its not albino, the flash makes it look really white, he says the cap has some light tan too it.

I cant remember what strain he got for his first attempt but it was defo not albino.

Well thats the thing, its really cold here. Its been snowing the last few days and its also very icy. Its been below freezing quite alot recently.

The compost heap is in his shed so its probably warmer in there, and with the composting generating some heat but it mst still be pretty cold. Cant be much above freezing in there.

Wow that is really cool. I keep thinking of when to do my outdoor patch in the spring. Half of me is thinking sometime in late April when the danger of a freeze has passed but this makes me think that i may be safe even at the start of April. I mean the mycelium network will be below ground so that will offer protection from the occasional freezing temp.

I have a big bucket of compost that I have going as well. I will have to keep an eye out for any little mushrooms that have made it into there. Got to love the bonus mushroom.

My friend is rubbish at details, this compost heap isnt in the garden shed, its indoors. Good temps and high humidity. So its perfect for fruiting mushrooms.

Unfortrunatly the little guy was uprooted before he noticed it. so its not growing now more.

I have a 5 gal bucket going for in the winters that is kept in a cold room. Not too bad of a smell you just have to watch what you put in it during the winter and make sure it gets turned often. It will give me a good jump start on spring.

Its not directly in the house. Its in a room betweeen the kitchen and garden that has been built into the flat, so you go out the kitchen and theres an extension to the flat thats outisde. Then another door and real outside!!

niftyh he got various plants in there
