Spore Syringe/Colonized Cake shelf life?

I am just starting out, and I have two small questions. First, do spore syringes need to be refrigerated or anything....and can they go bad? And Secondly, is it possible to keep a colonized cake for any legnth of time without birthing?

1) They don't have to be kept in the fridge unless you plan on sitting on them for months.
2) Yes, put the jar in the fridge and you can keep it for a long time without degrading the contents.

I've never tested the upper limits, but the mycelium should be dormant in the fridge. I would assume that it would be fine for months as long as the substrate was not allowed to dry out.

I fruited cakes sucessfully after more than 1 year in the fridge.
