Life After Death: spent cakes

so what do you ppl do with cakes that won't fruit anymore? is it possible to eat them? what if you leave em outside under a tree or something? and i was thinking, there has to be a way to put nutrients back, like injecting a mixture of brf and water into the cake. and this is a kinda random thought but it has to do with nutrients. the PF tek says not to pack down the substrate to keep it light and airy so it colonizes faster, but then what's with the tamping down tek? so...if you put more substrate in, that is more nutrients and thus more fruits, but since you are packing it in, the mycelium would take slower to colonize...is that right?

i used to throw mine through the window... for my surprise, once i was just gonna dump another used cake down the way and ive seen those yellow caps looking at me... ;) if u can get caw manure, i'd put spent cakes on usual plant vases with some rich soil and caw manure... once i did put half a spent cake with only rich soil and ive got a strong flush the next day... the biggest shroom had an odd cross on its cap, caused by its dehydratation... that was real holy shit.
i hate witty sigs / if anything i say has something in common with reality, this is a merely a coincidence.

I;ve heard that you can make a "tea" with the cake that will get you high. Don't quote me on this...

i believe the main reason for the airy substrate is to allow sterilization...

I have read many posts where people say not to pack the substrate down at all - the reason you want an airy substrate is for quicker colonization. If you pack it tightly people claim that colonization is slowed greatly. I have not found this to be the case with my cakes at all, and I agree that a denser cake would seem to have more nutrients and should last longer and/or be healthier. My newest batch is my first from a syringe I made (PF Hawaiians). I packed the substrate quite a bit. I got all of the mixture in almost every jar (usually I have some left). My jars were quite dense although there were still some air pockets along the side. Colonization was not slowed at all - I just birthed on day 18. Full colonization on day 15 (Damn those fresh spores germinate/colonize quick).
