Your black specks that you speak of are mushroom spore's.
It's a good thing.

what were you expecting. the spores to be invisable?

Id expect individual spores to be invisible because they are microscopic...

Individual spores are microscopic, but when they are scraped off of a spore print into a syringe, they can clump up by the thousands, and then you can see them as little specks in the spore water.

No shit! My point was that i keep reading posts about people thinking their syringes are fucked because they cant see 'spores' in them... I you have ever made syringes, you will know that unless you feed a print into one or two syringes, you wont get much clumping, and i often make perfectly viable syringes that dont have much in the way of 'visible spore clumps'...

I find that some strains clump more than others or else there are some other factors that cause it.

hi all... glad to join the board this morning!
i just made my first inoculation. the syringe had the same feature, a black cloudy mass, about half the size of a small button, which i was going to query until i saw this thread. so i went ahead and inoculated 5 jars. I didn't shake the syringe beforehand, but as in between jars i flame sterilised the needle, i noticed that when the needle was heated by the flame, the liquid in the syringe reacted by moving around swiftly, and the black cloudy mass was dispersed throughout the liquid. at this stage i could then see little black specks spread throughout. this lead me to think perhaps the syringe should be shaken before hand, to disperse the spores evenly throughout? however the reply above about viable syringes in which no spores are visible lead me to think perhaps the black specks i saw are just a portion of the spores contained in the syringe which have clustered, but there are still plenty more even if invisible, so shaking was perhaps not necessary?
many thanks for views on this!

You've managed to bring a seven year old thread back to life on your first post...
Shaking is necessary, to evenly disperse the spores. The black mass you see is literally hundreds of thousands of spores. If you don't shake up your syringe, you're taking a chance of blowing your whole load on the first inoculation hole.
Read these forums more, and next time just create your own post rather than earning the dreaded title of "Thread Necromancer"

lol dead thread reserection.
ok, black specs are normal and what hapens when the spores start to stick together in a syringe. A good freshly made syringe will often look like just clear water, especially if prepared correctly. The spores are suspended in the water. Some use ultrasonic jewlery cleaners to get there spores well suspended in the water.
After time, they do clump and you start to see them. It can happen quite quickly in syringes that just contain water and spores, they aslo stick to the sides. Use jet dry or sex lub to stop it happening.
Just be sure to give your syringe a good shake to break it up and spread the spores. If you have an ultrasonic jewlery cleaner, that will work wonders on breaking up spore clumps.
I may be wrong, but i think spore clumps tend to be a waste, when injected into substrate, the majority of spores cant get water and dont germinate.
Anyone care to clarify, im sure i read about it a while ago
