Pan Cyan Question
    #972096 - 10/18/02 11:11 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

Can you fill your 1/2 pint jars with horse manure compost instead of millet to start the pan. cyans' lifecycle? Once those compost cakes are colonized, I'd assume you just spawn them with larger amounts of compost and then case it.

Just reading the vendor sites' notes on Pan. Cyans. and if they do so well on poop...would it be feasible/possible to simply start them in small jars of dung compost or do they have to start out on seed?

Thank you for any replies!

Love & Light,

Bop

when I told ralph i had some of the sporeworks self healing blank bags, he said I could make the straw/dung bag, and innoculate directly into it. So I assume it would be the same.

The problem as I see it is that if you didn't sterilize the compost it would contaminate before the mycelial network could take hold; if you did sterilize it I don't think there would be enough nutrients present to promote mycelial growth (at least from spores). Still, since this seems like what happens in the wild, it should be possible; especially if you innoculated with agar wedges. Innoculating grain to get a healthy substrate going seems more advantageous though.

Check this out:

Instead of using bags, just use jars...

I dont even bother spawning copes - just innoculate a manure, verm and rye 500ml jars and then case these and results:
