so, i would put this in the general forum, but i never get an answer when i ask about cyans there.....

since the mycellum is fragile, are g2g transfers possible? should i try to NOT break up the mycellum when doin them?>
should i shake after g2g or no?

when adding grain to straw (in spawn bag) should i smoosh the grain/mycellum around?
should i just shake it?
or just leave it be?

finally, when adding spawned straw to casing tray,
should i smoosh it? crumble it? or distrub it as little as possible?

just HOW fragile is the mycellum??

i have heard people say, they had bad luck shaking pan. mycelium .
i didn't .
it may take one good bump to bust the grain lose, after that shake gently . turn the jar horizontal, shake back and forth 3 or 4 times, then roll the jar 1/4 turn and repeat . that's enough .



this jar of wbs took 19 days with 1 shaking .

It is fragile, but it recovers.
IME you can do anything with it what you would do with P. cubensis.

I have shaken jars of rye berrys colonized with pan cyan mycilium and it completly killed off all the mycilium. pan mycilium colonizes fast enough where you really dont need to shake them. should only take maybe a week tops to colonize quart jars of rye berrys onc e the spores germinate.

There is a really good step by step method @ MushMush's "Methods" page. And i had the same bad luck about shaking the jars. 1 of every 3 jars i shaked stalled or died. But i don't blieve it's just because of the fragility of the cyan. myc. I must have done something wrong. If Anno says "you can do anything with it what you would do with P. cubensis" than all i can do is to respect.... :smile:

yea, im a bit worried i do my cyan G2G tommrow, im using popcorn
i thinkin i may just NOT shake it
or shake 2 and not shake 6, just to see what happens

the part im worried about, is when i dump my spawn into the mycobag.. 
im going to need to mix it up?

i will do so gingerly....

i also wondered if it was better to grow cyans in smaller batches rather than 1 large container....
i was thinking "bread-pan" sized containers....
any input?

(and i read una's cyan teks.. very good :wink: :smile:

  My advice would be; even if you case 'em in smaller batches, put them in one big terrarium. That is helpfull for the venting process..... Since Cyans. are more sensitive to CO2 concentrations, venting all casings @ once needs less effort...... The best of luck this time.... :grin:

i set up an automated system with 2 double fish pumps for my cyans... they should get PLENTY of fresh air :smile:
my terrarium is similar to UNA's setup except i have 2 more air wands in the bottem....
