pan cyan pin probs?

I'm trying to domesticate a pan. cyan strain,
thus far am having little luck. It colonizes very fast, i cold shocked it, and it is still massively overlaying the casing layer. I think i'm providing ample air exchange, and the humidity is high, obviously (95%). Are they usually very temperature sensitive, I am using the same fruiting temperatures that are working fine for cubes? I have only had minimal experiences with them.

Definately temp sensitive. It is important to maintain appropriate temps for pan cyans. They will pin very quickly and overlay is usually not a problem with pan cyans that will inhibit fruiting - quite the opposite. If they havent pinned within two weeks something is wrong.

I thought someone mentioned that pan cyans like slightly lower RH for pinning than Ps cubensis (around 90 or 88%) Not sure about that though.

Yes I thought the same thing. Your humidity is too high and you might have misted too much possibly causing the overlay as well. Or you should consider not incubating your casing to allow the casing to colonsise.

I didn't incubate the casing.
I haven't been misting overly (at all even, i just use a bubbler). I keep the RH around 90-95%

They are very temp sensitive you say? What should my exact target temp be?

also, do you mean they will pin over the overlay? like cubes do on cakes?
Or should I scratch/recase? Or just let it be, and wait to see? I cased them about 1 week ago. Give or take a day or 2. I was stupid with my sharpie, and forgot to write the date. heh.
thanks for the help everyone!

Hmm Im having almost the opposite.
Well, I have not gotten them to pin, and its been 8 days since casing. I did not incubate the casing. Temps have been low due to the fact I broke my heater, and they WERE on average 63 degrees. Now I have it up to 75F, humidity as high as possible, and fresh air exchanges at least 1 time per hour for 10 minutes.
Colonization of the casing was minimal, as the temps were pretty damn low for 7 of the 8 days.
The TMC reccomends for primordia formation: RH: 95+% Air temperature: 75 - 80 F C02: 5,000 ppm or below Fresh Air exchanges: 2 per hour
How long since you cased?

rH should be the same as for cubensis exactly. Temps should be maintained at around 22C and should not fluctuate. They tend to pin better and overlay sint an issue with pan cyans because they are not tenacious and will not overlay to the point of making watering impossible. Infact a well colonised casing layer will fruit better. Do not mist and lower humidity as soon as they begin to pin.

Yea , the best way is to make sure you see condensation on the walls of the chamber. Once pins show up just stop misting and provide regular air exchanges. I've noticed that they tend to produce pins in exactly the same fashion as the more common cubies. Sans a casing layer as well! I can not figure it out. For the longest time I was informed that a casing was required. I even tried one. It works, but the way I am doing things a casing is just not required. Also ,from a multispore innoculation there seems to be a high chance fruiting will not occur. That of course is solved by cloning the best fruit you finally get and going from there. Peace.

They seem to like lots of light to..I have tried pinning in my grow room that has salvia and trichs growing verse another place in the house not so bright resulting in very few pins...The overlay is minimal if you cold shock about 15 degrees cooler and then give them bright light and tons o fresh air...I do miss this hobby

I have a millet spawned straw casing that has still not pinned after more than 2 weeks of casing colonisation. Anyone else agree with the above quote, as I can't work out what's wrong with it?

Ive found that if the casing is not well colonised, it will fruit poorly, whereas a well colonised casing fruits well. Id suggest that wild strains might be harder to fruit from multi spore than more domesticated strains, but i always isolate them. If you use agar, you can test each isolate on agar as they will pin hwne exposed to light when the plate is fully colonised.

Just try maintaining the temps at around 22C and stop misting as soon as it pins.

When I initiate pinning(expose to light and drop temperature) I don't have to wait longer than six or so days before there are pins all over the place. The substrate is fully colonized of course. After I see pins , I just give plenty of fresh air and maybe up the temp slightly to 79 degrees or so. If things seem dry(they usually do not) I mist lightly when exchanging air. They really thrive IMO.

Yea, too much mist after the pins show up will cause problems. If you want ,get two tests side by side and mist one often. The other just fan like crazy. You'll see what happens. Another thing is they need fresh air often.
