Only one enegery Co. to choose from

im not sure how it is in other states, but here in texas we only have one company that provides energy. its fucked up cause they can sit there and raise the shit out of prices and we cant do shit because they are the only ones.

why the fuck cant we have more then one to choose from? we do for cable, internet, phone, food.....

Here in Lubbock we've got Atmos, LP&L, and a couple of co-ops in the area.

where did you get this idea that one company provides power to the whole state?

i know, but imagine the profit one would make if they were to start a leading company.

i just dont think its cool for CPS to charge more and not give a fuck cause they know its either pay them or no power.

a few years back it cost me like 50-60 bucks a month for a one bedroom apartment. last year my bill was between 120-150 a month in a one bedroom.

one company provides it all, but they're legally obligated to sell energy to other companies that in turn sell it to you.

if hunt around you can probably shave a few cents off your bill by switching to a middleman energy company.

no you're wrong. there are different companies that provide energy into the grid. one new example is all the wind mills out here going up. LP&L...lubbock power and light has a small power plant.

to be honest i really dont know. i just assumed that CPS was the only provider. i guess that is a little nieve(sp?) of me.

how does it work over there in lubbock? you can choose any company? is one cheaper then the other? does one offer more/ less then the other?

the cost of entrance to the energy industry (like the water and telecom industries) is so high that it's quite near impossible for competition to flourish, that and almost all power-able areas have been spoken for.
It's called a natural monopoly

I've never even heard of CPS...back in Austin/Round Rock there where a couple different ones than here.

lol so you only have one provider so you think all of texas has one? what city/town are you in?

I think LP&L is a bitch cheaper than Atmos out here..but i haven't really looked at the prices. I live in a small efficieny apartment so my utilities are never very high anyways.

oh sorry, i actually don't live in texas.  Here in NY all the power comes from the same place.  i assumed he was talking about something similar.  Here one company generates all the power, but they have to sell it to sell it at like set prices to middle men if requested to.

also time warner owns all the fiber optic cable here, but i can get cable from another company, and time warner has to let them use their fiber optic lines.

i didn't realize you could choose between different people actually generating the power.

type in "electicity providers texas" or something like that into google.  i just did it and one of the first sites i saw was a texas government site that allows you compare electric providers by area code.

no... you have one choice, you have a couple of choices in
billing companies, I had Walton EMC for electric, anytime repair
was done it was a Southern Co. or Ga Power truck tha came to do
the work, same shit works with phone companies and gas providers

Its the same here in Arkansas.

The power company you use is dependent upon where you live
There is more than one power company
just not in the same area

So you only have one option when it comes to electricity
