This is an appendix of sorts to my earlier trip report: second P. cyanescens experience. Not so much about the trip itself, but about the after effects.
In the couple weeks prior to my trip, Id been having trouble with my right ear. Things were sounding muffled, and there was a constant "wooshing" noise on top of a high-pitched whine. I tried using Debrox to clear the wax out, but even after I got the wax out, everything still sounded muffled. Id been starting to worry that I might lose my hearing in that ear entirely, and was feeling pretty helpless since I dont have health insurance.
So, I asked the mushrooms to help me heal my ear prior to taking them. Things continued to sound tinny and muffled throughout my experience- however I noticed before I went to bed last night that things sounded clear again- the same in both ears- with only a dull whine left in my right ear; something Ive had for years.
On top of that, during my trip I started getting that unmistakable itch in the back of my throat that can only mean one thing- an oncoming cold. So I flushed my nasal cavity with warm saline solution, got in a hot bath and consciously focused on fighting off the invasion. I ate some grapefruit and drank hot tea. The scratchiness was gone within a few hours, and Im feeling great today. In this instance, it was the steps I took to give my body what it needs to fight the cold as much as it was the mushrooms themselves- but my heightened sense of body awareness helped me immediately identify the problem and take steps to correct it.
This isnt the first time Ive had my physical body healed by psilocybin mushrooms. A few years ago, I rolled my ankle skateboarding. Afterwords, I had some degree of pain at all times- especially when inverting it (bending it inwards). Then, after about 6 months after the original injury, I rolled it again- while skateboarding. My ankle was swolen, and I was limping bad. I ate p. cubensis that night with some friends, with an entire eighth to myself. I was very aware of the injured ankle during my trip, able to feel every muscle and ligament in the area, and took very good care of my ankle. My friends decided to take off to hang out in a nearby graveyard, but I decided to stay in the house we were at because of my ankle.
I tripped hard- hitting level four at peak. Even before my friends left, I lost my ability to use and comprehend language except for short and simple sentences. I remember at one point after they left while I was lying on the couch, I couldn't tell if I felt terrible or amazing, and the only word I could come up with to describe my experience was "applesauce," which initiated fits of laughter. Moving fractals climbed the walls, and fractal noises filled my head.
My ankle hurt throughout the trip and comedown. I remember having to get up and go to the bathroom frequently, as my bladder was filling up completely every five to ten minutes (this always happens to me when coming down off mushrooms- flushing out the psilocybin byproducts, I suppose. Is this something that happens to everyone?), and I had to be very careful with my ankle each time as it was still very painful. My kidneys finally calmed down, allowing me fell asleep at dawn.
I awoke a couple hours later and when I stood up, there was no pain whatsoever in my ankle. It felt better than it had before I injured it the prior evening. I could rotate it in all directions, put pressure on it, run on it without feeling pain. I was astounded.
I have had no pain in my right ankle since then, even when sitting in the half-lotus position- something which caused me a great deal of pain in that ankle after the first time I rolled it right up to the day I rolled it the second time.
I can only give thanks that our planet provides us with such loving and powerful medicine after all the damage we have willfully and carelessly caused to it as a species. Proof in my eyes that Mother Earth truly loves her children unconditionally.
-------------------- Our bodies stirred with these waters briefly, danced with a certain intoxication before the love of life and self, dealt with a few strange ideas, then submitted to the instruments of Time. What can we say of this? I occurred. I am not ... yet, I occurred.
