Is my FC's RH really at 100%, or is my hygrometer messed up?
    #9364369 -

I live where it is now approaching winter time, and so humidity in my house is expected to decrease some.  I have a crappy digital hygrometer sitting in my room, which says RH is at 36% (although I think it's more around 30%.)  I've got an analog hygrometer in the FC that constantly says RH is at 100%, even when I let it set overnight without misting (approximately 8 hours.)  Now here's my FC setup:  I mist 5 - 6 times per day, i have a solid 4 inches of perlite in the bottom, and 1/4" holes drilled 3 inches apart on all sides.  I wrapped my hygrometer in a wet towel for a little over an hour, and calibrated it to just under 100%.  Based on these conditions, is it likely that i'm really maintaining 100%, or near 100% humidity?

It could be near 100%

Why not switch the meters and see if you get the same readings?

You can calibrate the analog one by putting it a tupperware container with some table salt that has a small amount of water added(just a drop or two).Adjust to 75% after its been in there a few minutes and your in business.

No you can't.
A hygrometer must be calibrated to the range you will be using it at.

Use the wet towel method to calibrate.

A hygrometer is only accurate at a 20% range of the RH you calibrate it at. Thus calibrating it at 75% won't really be accurate at the 90-100% range. By calibrating it at 99% RH by the towel method you will have it accurate in that range.

I agree with that, but it still puts the range then from 55- 95.I'm sure the towel method works,i've just never tried it.I think i'll test mine today both ways.

You do that.
All I know is the towel method is foolproof, so that's what I use.

One hour, then adjust to 99%.

Get a towel good and damp to the point it's almost dripping, then wrap the hygro in a few layers, wait the hour, and immediately set it to 99%

i hope to god you dont mist 5-6 times a day with cakes in there, thats wayyyy too much, 1, maybe 2 times a day and only on the side of the FC, FAN 5-6 times a day is fine....never mist with pins.

if you use perlite your RH should be 95%+, no problems...so yes you are probably at 99% or 100%, my shotgun fc is at a constant 99% with your same setup.
