My hygrometer, which sucks
    #1182478 - 01/01/03 04:50 AM (22 years, 4 months ago)

I updated my terrarium a little bit this holidayz, as i had a tiny bit more money to spend lol so i wanted to check if my aquarium bubbling system actually works. But my digital thermometer/hygrometer is not working since it accidentally - while i was away - felt inside water. i cleaned it and dried it and alas, the temperature seems to work now. But the hygrometer is still weird. Now the maximum RH i can get in my new terrarium is 69%, according to that shitty piece of electronics.

Well i dont have any questions, as i know the only answer is to buy a new one, but i cant spend 25 euro at the moment. Fuck. LOL

oups i thought of a question right now. I think that there is a calibration problem in the hygrometer. It works, but when i put it on the top of a heater, it reads some 40 C and 12% RH. Is there a way to calibrate this thing? Is it an enviroment where the RH is pre-known? I have read the tek in shroomery that uses salt, but i can promise you only one thing: i didnt understand how to do it. So if you have any ideas or you think you can explain this tek, you are most welcome!!

Have a great New Year!

If it were me,I'ld return the one you've got and don't bother getting another. There's no need to know the exact humidity level. If your using a bubbler,I'm sure you're fine.

Hi Kykeon.

Just take a cap off a bottle & add about a teaspoon of salt to it, drip a few drops of water on it until you've got moist salt (moist not wet) pop it into a ziplock bag along with your hygrometer, seal the bag and leave it for about 6 to 10 hours and the RH should read 75%. If it doesn't read 75% adjust it accordingly.

Hope that helps !

The only way to get a "hygrometer" that works accurately is to spend a few hundred $s for a digital, accurate on. They have gotten the reputation of being very inaccurate, but the more you spend, the more accurate it is. I'm sure no one wants to spend this much, so you may want to stick to the latter and just not buy one at all.

High Kykeon,

Maybe I can help  I can sent you my small terrarium hyrometer. You have to caliberate it, then use it and sent it back to me.

Let me know what you think of it.

mornin' froggy

look at this. and now what? lol after some 6 hours the hygrometer looked like this:

so the RH is at 7F% lol then i took it out and it still was frozen at 7F for several hours, outside the baggie. So i took out the battery and re-put it and it showed 69 which is its favorite number.

The test-terrarium looks like this:

there is a bubbling zone around the casing. Hey Guyz, do you think that this system can raise the RH enough?
