2002 Azure Hunting!!

This will be my official 2002 azure hunting thread. I will post updates as to the hunting conditions in Astoria and neighboring cities. I will post pics of my finds.
I encourage all of you to post the same and to post any ??s about azure hunting here.
The season shall soon be upon us!!!
Dobie asked a ? in another forum, I will address it here. He wanted me to advise him of locations on the Oregon side of the Columbia for picking azures.
While I can not divuldge my favorite locals for obvious reasons, I will name one location that is easy to find and that has great hunting grounds that follow the standard azure habitat.
Ft. Sevens State Park is a great spot to find azures growing in Maratime grass covered dunes. There are several roads labeled according to the letters of the alphabet, give that a shot.
Here is my favourite pic from last years hunting:
Here is one to show the beauty of the azurescen:
Here are some links to last years hunting results:

do these things really lose as much potency when drying as I hear they do?
might as well hunt cyans then, I hear they don't lose much potency at all when drying.. you can only keep a mushroom fresh for so long. did you find any cyans last year Josh?

I vaguely recall a reference to sustained potency after drying. I thought that the reference stated they retain a good portion of potency. I'll see if I can find the reference.
I ate them as dry specimens only and they were decently powerful. I don't like the azure trip however. I find that I feel something different in them that affects my muscles in a negative way. I have had the same experience w/ cyans.
I did not hunt for cyans last year. I hope to head up to the Puget Sound area for some cyan hunting this year though.

Read this trip report:
7 g Azure Trip.
I ate 3.5 grams cyans a couple of weekends ago. I felt the same muscle weakness as w/ the azures. I had problems later in the trip focusing my eyes. It was as if my muscles for focusing were drunk, it was not comfortable for me at all. My arm muscles and my leg muscles were a little weak and shakey. The whole trip was 7 hrs or so, the muscle phenom lasted from about the 4 th hour to 12 hours.

wow! I loved this post last season too! Im always surprised by the size of azures - they are big mushrooms for woodlovers!! And id say that due the high levels of psilocybin detected in this mushroom, that it should maintain potency after drying. Cant wait to may here when our rain starts to see if we can get them up and running down under. They are very similar to Australian species - in particular we have a newly discovered mushroom in Australian - possibly ps.eucalypta - that is very similar to this mushroom keep us informed Joshua!!

Perhaps the muscle thing could be attributed to something other than the mushrooms themselves. like your physical health and strength? or maybe not. 2 cents

according to MJ Azures and Beaos lose a good amount of potency when drying, cyans do not.
this again according to Mushroom John.

yeah, that park is huge, but i see people hunting even when there aint shit to hunt. seems pretty hot.....i dunno. i think that azures, having a large dose of both psilocybin AND psilocyn, are relatively potent after drying (psilocybin keeps, psilocyn is ephemeral..) i think stamets says so in his psilo guide. i also read somewhere that baeocystin had the unpleasant association with muscular incoordination and headaches....it scared me a long time ago...funny, azures have more baeocystin than baeocystis generally....maybe thats what gets you, joshua. since azures have such an inordinate amount of psilocyn, as is evidenced by all that damn bluing ( ), one would think that the experience of the dried shrooms would be vastly different than that of the fresh material. i only ate one single azure out of the several ounces i got last year. fresh little fucker the size of my thumb. i couldnt drive.

Not doubting the nedless wisdom of MJ Shroomer, gartz found a psilocybin content around 1.7 percent plus. If we believe that, this alkaloid is more stable than psilocin, then you would expect azures to maintain some of their potency. Or something.
