Throw out the brown keep the black  the black spored ones are some type of pann hard to tell from the pics...most likely subbs...if not, most likely active based on what I can tell from the photos...and habitat info.

"...I found dozens of single specimens.  That's what I call hunting.  There are only a few "good" hunters here, even now.  You're certainly in that group.  I would imagine if we hunted together we'd find our styles are similar."

RIP Matt, your friendship and your contributions to the world of fungi will be missed. Unfortunately we never got to hunt together.

yep, toss the brown, but even the black might not be much!
panaeolus subbalteatus is not a "strain" as you referred to it. it is a species.
if you and i lived on opposite sides of the country and i found pan subbs, and you and i traded prints and grew them out, and they had different characteristics morphologically (stouter or slimmer, darker/lighter, stronger/weaker) that would be a different strain. still the same species. cubies are psilocybe cubensis, and people pick them all over the world in slightly different climates. they have evolved slightly diff morphologies, but still mate and intergrade, meaning they are genetically the same species.
thanks for reading,
