CO2 for Cacti
    #9266510 -

When growing seedlings, they say to just leave the seedlings in the humidity tent for a couple months.  Would it be beneficial to the cacti to suck out the stale air every day and replace it with CO2? (CO2 as in the air I breathe out, not pure) Or does it really not matter?

Just airing the seedlings out every once in a while will replace enough of the CO2. I don't think it would be all that beneficial. If you're just breathing on them though, your chances of them contracting fungal infections would definitely increase.

there's more than enough atmospheric CO2 for seedlings, that's for sure.

Well they are in bags so once all the CO2 is gone, its gone.  Unless you were talking about inside the bag, and that it would have enough CO2 to stay in the bag for a couple months. I guess it doesn't matter too much anyway, I will be taking them out soon, I'm just trying to wait til after Thanksgiving so I don't have to rely on someone to take care of them while I'm gone. Its been a little over two months already :/

well you are supposed to allow fresh air to enter the chamber/bag as often as possible.

No shit? eeeek, I never read that anywhere thanks for letting me know.  I have been airing them out every now and then, but no where near "as often as possible". I appreciate the replies guys.

Oh ok cool, so it will probably benefit them to have fresh air, but it most likely wont hurt them if they don't

Cacti are CAM plants, they use PEP carboxylase to fix CO2 into malic acid at night, this process is pretty efficient at pulling CO2 out of the air so CAM [and C4 plants] don't really benefit so much from increasing the CO2 concentration. Of course if you have a C3 plant raising levels of CO2 will help the less efficient RuBisCO out, and inhibit photoresperation so you'll get better yields!

Yeah i've neglected to air them out for long periods of time, but it is beneficial to air them out daily if you can.
