In THE TEACHINGS OF DON JUAN, Don Juan seems to have taught Carlos to smoke the mushrooms, which might provide a different or heavier trip than ingesting them since they undoubtedly contain many compounds like DMT and 5-methoxy-DMT which are not orally active.

The concept of smoking mushrooms is in no way a new idea. In my mind a 6foot bong and a few caps is all but ordinary to me. It's senseless to have such a closed mind about smoking mushrooms. They are two totally different effects being that heating the muchrooms activates different substances as apposed to ingesting them... These are just my thoughts and although I have no scientifical research at this time to support my reasonings, I simply smoke and eat my mushrooms and intimately enjoy my effects off my mushroom trips however I may chose to.

You have to remember that Don Juan never existed. Castenada knew nothing about mushrooms and assumed they were like marijuana and could be smoked. This is why he used the myth of smoking mushrooms - simple ignorance. When someone told him you couldn't smoke mushrooms he started saying he ate them in his later books.

just don`t smoke them
I`m still going to and who ever else does won`t stop either.

alex, did you not get a good set of parents? is that why you have to be right? never can agree to disagree, OH NO, must be proved right ALL THE WAY...and MUST get that crucial last word in....that's okay, i've argued with three year olds before. (shrug). they do the same thing....i find it so funny...i laugh the whole time, it's so easy to push them with just little goading statements, and then they just repeat themselves in different ways....sometimes going so far as to say that last word, then run out the door so you can't get another word in...has me rolling in tears of laughter. kids are so cute.

so off topic, has anyone ever heard Aphex Twin redo speed racer? it's so hellaciously funny dude...especially at the end when speed and trixie start haveing sex...i laughed so hard i was in tears.
about the "whitey" thing...um careful calling me that, i have a black friend nicknamed crazy who hates the kkk....and he refers to them all as whitey...and whenever i manage to piss him off (usually by not taking him to the liquor store or something) then he starts calling me whitey....actually it's kinda funny. never mind, i'll go by whitey if ya want.

Baraka, Alex, DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?
We all agree psilocybin is destroyed by heat.
However there are other compounds in mushrooms that can be smoked but are inactive taken orally. ie. DMT, 5-MeO-DMT

Psilocybes... contain the Psilocybin, and Psilocin and other DMT related tryptamines.

maybe they don't... i wouldn't argue with alex...he seems the type that will never be wrong. ever.
but anyway...i think you need to smoke it right to activate those other ingredients. such as...probably something alot hotter than a regular lighter. like i torch. maybe a vaporizer. now that would be cool.
i don't know though...not wise in the ways of...this.
