rehydrating rye jars
    #917659 - 09/29/02 07:28 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

what's a good way to add water to a rye jar that's gotten a little dried out? i've got one or two peanut sized mycelium globs in each jar, but i'm worried that it won't spread to the more dry areas. will it colonize the semi dry grain? am i just a moron? any help appreciated.

if a picture would be helpful in determining the necessity of adding more water, let me know.

I?d just use a tad more water next time. Adding anything at this point just calls for contamination.

IF you want to EXPERIMENT, then you could try boil some water and pull it into a syringe, let cool down, and then inject into the jar. Shake well.

I probably got lucky, but a couple weeks ago I rehydrated a seed jar with sterilized straw juice. Actually, I did 1 seed & 2 rye. The rye jars picked up speed and then stalled again. The seed jar went into overdrive and finished up in a few days.
