    #987386 - 10/23/02 07:58 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

sup yall. i been lazy for a while and have several rye grain jars that were innocd in early july. i shook a couple the other day and they didn't recolonize much if any. is there a way i can tell if the rye is still usable without pasturizing and waiting.

thanks for any help.

You mean to tell me that you innoculated a jar in july and shook it up the other day? I don't think that rye would still be good.

if you have innoculated rye grains in July and now you dont have a mycelium inside, then there is somethin' else in there.

check the grains to see if there is any milky liquid anywhere. if it is, name it bacteria. wear a mask and throw the contents to your trashcan. smell the jar [not directly but use your hand to throw some air from jar to your nostrils] it should smell weird.

the jars are fully colonized brothers to the ones allready flushed out.
i'm just gonna try to spawn with a couple.
i'll know in a couple of days from spawning.
