I Overcooked my rye jars, am I okay
    #587647 - 03/23/02 09:03 PM (21 years, 8 months ago)

I cooked my rye grain jars (quart jars, 200 grams rye, 175ml water) at 15psi for 1:45. That doesn't include the heat up / cool down times.

Will they be okay, or should I dump em and start over.

actually, i over cooked for jars of BRF and VERM, the mycelium couldn't take over, look and see if there is a difference in the appereance of the substrate.
mine looked more "expanded"
if it looks like normal then its probobly fine

well, i have had the same thing happen but not from over cooking, from to much h20 , i rememer that i once had some PR' s growing that were fully colonized half way down the qaurt jar they would clolonize any farther becuase, i fell asleep and didnt shake the rye jars , when they were still hot,so all the wet material stayed at the bottom, i learned the hard way that i had put too much water in it , because , i used sterile utensils in a clean box, and mixed up the rye , and the mycelium never took over again, too wet,, no contams, jsut too wet, so make shure you water content is correct
