Uh-oh, contam.. need advice

Ok, i was looking at one of my jars this morning. Which is about 80% colonized now. At the very top of the jar, there was one corn kettle which had some obvious green color on it. I looked all around the entire jar, and esp around the one corn kettle.. It seems it was the only thing which was green. So I took a spoon and plucked out a nice sized chunk around the moldy kettle..

Should I just toss the jar? It smells nice and mushroomy. It'l be disappointing, what do you guys think? Wait it out and see if any more green-mold appears or just toss it?

what kind of substrate are you working with?

what size jars are you using?

did you open the jar in open air?


answer these questions and we can help you better.

I hope the spoon you used was sterilized.  You should have just tossed it.  It's a bummer I know, but once it is in there your not going to be able to get it out.

Opening the jar and going in there w/ a spoon could have easily introduced many more contams.. I'd put it FAR away from your others and grow area if you wanna hold on to it just to see.

I am using WBS, in 1 pint jars.. Yes I opened the jar in open air to remove the contam. The spoon was cleaned w/ rubbing alcohol.

Yeah, Prob not the best idea.. but It was a quick operation. hah.

I think I will keep it (Away from the others of course) Green mold is pretty easy to spot luckily.. and it grows pretty fast in my experience.. so i should know within a day or so.

Opening an uncolonized substrate jar in open air isn't going to help your cause very well.

You probably introduced more contams into the jar.

Plus you can spread more mold spores into your household.



If your hell bent on trying to save the jar, and want to see if it will recover(usually they don't)...

I suggest putting the jar on a shelf somewhere away from your other jars.


If it starts to show signs of contams again...

throw it away...

or take it outside and clean the jar out.

yeah, We all really need to start using the contam. forum, if we would the cultivation forum would not get cluttered up with so many questions.  I am making a conscious effort to do this.
