How do I get past skepticism??
    #9226670 -

I feel like I've been taken over by skepticism. I can't even know if I'm here let alone anything else. This is not a very good outlook, how do I let skepticism go?

You sound like you aren't sure of anything, which is not skepticism.  Skeptics are certain that they know something or other.  You sound agnostic, or possibly in the midst of an existential crisis, or what could develop into one.

As for knowing whether you are there or not... something is there experiencing, and whether that is what you thought you were or not is one thing... but something is there, which is you.  You may have to redefine what you think you are, but you are there.

This is truth that you are speaking though.  Nobody can know anything.  We believe things, and have high suspicions, but anybody who knows anything for certain is tricking themselves.  It really all boils down to faith, based on past experience, none of which is infinitely reaching.  It's a trust.  Maybe the foundation you stood upon has crumbled as you've realized some things, and it seems to have broken your trust.  Now you don't know where to stand because you realize there is no ground.  This is what is referred to as "groundlessness".

It's scary.  But think about the positive side of it.  It's absolutely freeing.

You are going to think.  So think positive!

Just be aware of what it feels like to make a judgment, a conclusion.  And recognize that most of what you perceive is your actually your thoughts about what you perceive.  Your rational brain will always suggest a judgment or an explanation.  Right there you can say to yourself "Possibly, but I don't really know that for sure; I'll give him/her/it the benefit of the doubt."

Be sparing with judgments and conclusions, they are costly in the sense that each one replaces a bit of your actual world with a thought.  Soon patterns form and you're mostly just perceiving your own prejudices and dispositions, with which you have replaced your environment.  Pessimism, contempt for others, depression, weariness... these are all tragic consequences of the habit of compulsive judgment.  Every time you can withhold judgment, your world gets a little more vivid.

Conclusions are tempting because they often provide something to identify with, an ego boost.  Often there is little other incentive to make a conclusion.

That's what I think anyway

Why is this bad?  Why can't the lack of knowledge let us believe infinite possibilities?

I think it's a great outlook. You have to surrender to unknowing and then get on with the fun.

I think there is truth in that.

Damn this ego. I have a Buddist friend who has told me all about the ego. I wish it would shut the fuck up sometimes

See, I think that is part of my problem. I realize that there are infinte possibilites. For all I know I'm a brain in a vat, etc. I need to let this go and accept that I can't know (or can I????!!! (ugh)) what is.
