Why I'm proud to be an American today.

I'm proud to be an American today, and I was yesterday, and the day before that and the day before that, etc.  I am also ashamed to be an American today, and I was yesterday, and the day before that and the day before that, etc.  My country has done some wonderful things and some terrible things.  Anyone even vaguely familiar with American history is more than aware of them.

But something is different today for me.  I am proud to be a Democrat today, and pleased Barack Hussein Obama was elected president of the United States even though I didn't vote for him.

Early on in this election, I volunteered for the Obama campaign and worked hard for him for two reasons. (1) I perceived him to be the underdog and (2) to get rid of the scourge that drove me from my party for a long, long time, i.e. the Clintons.  I was a team captain for the Bill Clinton's campaign in 1992.  Before his first term was up I felt betrayed and used.

As some of you know, after Sarah Palin's selection for VP running mate I switched over to vote for her.  Something I am definitely not ashamed of.  I switched because I saw her as the underdog and the vicious, unwarranted hatred of men, in particular, and Big Media in general.  She lost. :ohwell:  There is always next time.

I am proud that I worked for Obama and proud to call him my president.  Whatever mistakes the president of the United States have made, and there have been many, I have been proud of each and every one on them, including George W. Bush, since Eisenhower--all but one, William Jefferson Clinton, who is, in my opinion, not only an embarrassment to the United States, but to the world and humanity in general.

I was delightedly pleased that Barack won last night and neither last night nor today was there even a whisper of "what the Clinton's thought about it."  Who gives a rat's ass what those two think about anything.  Fuck that cunt and her impeached husband.

I was also embarrassed by the southern states who can't seem to get over their racism and turned against their party and voted for John McCain for that reason.  :nonono:

I find it funny that you call people in the south racist. What are people in the north? I do know that this was the highest turnout for minorities in northern states. And guess what the entire northeast went blue. Does that make minorities racist because the only time they got out to vote was when they could vote for another minority? One as a person or collectivly shouldn't be called a racist for how they voted, plain and simple.

He is a fucking Mulatto!!!

He is a hybrid......just like me. To say that he has a cultural connection to Africa is bullshit, just like 98.9999 percent of all blacks in America.

Exactly, supernovasky.  It makes me wonder if some of the partisan wounds will actually heal.

But to answer Entropymancer's question I could go in several directions.  Try this one.

Bill Clinton, probably more than any other Democrat president, did more for the Republican Party than any other in our lifetime.

Thanks to Bill's tax increase we received not only less money in our paychecks, but the first Republican Congress in decades.

Because he couldn't keep his dick in his pants (and lied about it) we got George Bush for president instead of Al Gore--we probably never had a more environmentally safe candidate run for the presidency.

Because of 9/11 Bush's popularity soared winning him a second term and now the Supreme Court is more to the right than it has ever been in 40 years.

Bill Clinton, while he was dishing pardons to known felons, turned his back on Leonard Peltier who had every celebrity in the world crying for his pardon for a crime he didn't commit, including Mother Theresa.

George Bush's presidency brought us two wars all because of Bill Clinton.

George Bush's presidency and the economy it wrought was so upsetting that it gave a black man the White House, at long last, and put an end to the strangle hold the Clinton's have had on our party for far too long.

Entropymancer, I remember when you twisted my words by omission when I declared for Sarah, whom I still admire.  I have just repeated my reasons for voting for her.  It wasn't just because she was "like my Mom."  It was for the reasons I gave in the OP.

As I said, there are dozens of ways to answer your question but remember this.  503 elected Democrat politicians switched to Republican during Clinton's presidency out of embarrassment.  Many of us ran away.  I was one among many.

Frankly, I don't care what other countries think of us as long as we are safe.  If Barack is able to woo the Muslims like he did the country we will be just that.  Time, alone, will tell.

Lastly, some people view blacks who voted for Obama as racist.  Let me tell you, it just ain't true.  Plenty of blacks have run on the Republican ticket in the hopes of getting cross-over vote.  It never worked.  Why?  Because they prefer their party over their race 90+% of the time.  I know plenty of Democrats, even elected officials, that voted for McCain because Barack was black.  It is shameful.
