Are you Un-American?
    #1559745 - 05/19/03 12:34 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Ok i think it needs to be said by someone on the right side of the political spectrum.  I'm getting pretty sick and tired of everyone who is against the war or Bush being called unamerican .  The idea that they are able to spout their opinions is in itself being a great american.  I'm not talking aboot those spoting any sort of violence or the numbnut protesters that think it is their right to incorporate violence in their civil disobediance.  This doesn't mean that i agree with someone who calls Bush evil or that America is evil, etc.

What is unamerican?  Unamerican to me is being a traitor by an american taking up arms against his/her own country, Companies who lie to their shareholders (Enron) and any action that would directly hurt the citizens of the United States.

political dissent is an American tradition.
if you can't recognize that, then THAT is un-American.

I consider myself VERY American. I mean, I may not agree with many of the things that my government does, but I still feel, whole-heartedly, that America is the best country in the world. The Government does SO many things for me. They pay for my education, they give me great insurance, they allow me to be relatively safe and pursue MOST of the activities I want.

If I was born in nearly any other country, I wouldnt have the opportunity to be in college like I am now. Would I trade ALL that for a change in Marijauana laws? I'm not sure....But at any rate, I consider myself American. This is a GOOD country.

patriotism does not make any sense to me. i consider myself a human being, and that is in direct contrast with being an "american", "canadian", "french".. or any other form of fake allegiance to a country you happen to be born in. try analyzing the logic behind your patriotism... you can't, because there is none.

What do you mean 'not having to pay for medical care?' You most certainly do pay for it if you pay taxes, or you pay higher prices for goods or services because of taxes on the producers of those goods or services. Don't fool yourself, TANSTAAFL.

Meaning that if I break my arm and go to the hospital I don't have to a pay a dime. If I like I can go to the doctor every single day for a checkup and not pay a cent out of pocket..besides my employer pays the taxes for healthcare...I don't. Even if they didn't, 34$ a month is not unreasonable for "free" healthcare.

I love the land I live on.

I do not love the government who owns it.

I am an American and I've still got some pride in that.

that's because Canada doesn't have to spend billions for defense... they can actually use tax money to help the people.

Lucky you, to bad most of your country doesn't have those kind of benefits. Id really hate to be a bum or live on a low income in the USA and get seriously injured in a car accident 20miles from the nearest hospital, the ambulance fee alone would put me back a grand or so.
