QFT.

I had to lock my pot up, because my female would go running with it around the house.  I'd find a 10 foot trail of nugs laying around.  She would steal it out of my backpack, drawers, jacket, pants.

Not good when the parents come to visit.

Not good anytime my friend, nugs all over the floor is not my idea of a nice welcome home!  But I suppose if it was relatively inexpensive or traded then its no harm no foul.

And much thanks for the open-door w/ the ferret ?s, I'm sure I will have a few when I do find the right ones to adopt.  This goes out to you too Liz, since I feel like you will help me here also.

PS, I love the shroomery because its generally a haven of good people sharing stories and experience, people helping people.  That's the essence of life y'all.  Like that story about the people with chopsticks that were too long for them to reach them to their mouths, we feed one another!

BTW, what does QTF mean?

i work at a pet store, the ferrets are the most fun to play with and the least fun to clean up after. they are totally worth it as long as you have an entire room to devote to their stench and you can always bring them out into the rest of your home to play.

great pets though

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way.

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain.
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you.
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.

I think it really comes down to....do you have the time and patience.

A weekly bath doesn't sound like much, but neither does working out for 30 minutes 3 days a week. How come so many people have SUCH a hard time keeping that up?  Laziness.  So it's the same with this.  If you know you'll have the time and patience to keep cleaning them for years and years to come, then ferrets are awesome.

Also, it is VERY important to read all the 'ferret 101' sites you can find.  Ferret proofing is srs business.  They WILL eat things that will kill them.  You pretty much need to get rid of all rubber in your house.  I'm talking down to the smallest things, like the shock absorbers on the back of cabinet doors...

I bathe mine less than once a week, in fact, they haven't had a bath in several weeks.  In some cases, bathing them more often causes them to produce oils more quickly and smell worse than they would normally.
Bathing them weekly may work for some ferret owners, but mine hate baths so I let them have their way, and I don't think they smell.

Ferret proofing is definitely key.  My female swallowed half and earplug once... She got way skinny and I had to hospitalize her.  The vet didn't want to operate because x-rays didn't show a blockage, but I told her I thought an earplug was to blame.  I was visiting the vet after hours, because my room mate worked there, when she started vomiting bile.  We called the vet and she came in and did emergency surgery and saved my poor Valentine (my male is Mercutio, I like naming pets after Shakespeare characters).

It took her weeks to get back to her regular size but she made it.  It was a good bit of money though, so be sure to get rid of, or put up, everything they could swallow.

One of my neighbours when living on campus had a ferret, Horus.

He took Horus out for walks every day and the ferret loved playing with the stray cats out there. He'd jump on them, do that funny wiggly thing they do and grab the cat by the neck. He hung on to the neck until the cat was unconcious then isntantly let go. About 5 seconds later the cat would get up dazed and walk off.

The funny thing is, it wan't him going after the cats, if they left him alone nothing happened, but many of the cats tried to have a go at him. Boy were they surprised. Soon all the neibourhood strays new who was boss, and left him well alone.

He never killed a single one of them either.

I'm happy to help however we can.  When you get one, make sure to get some ferretone, they LOVE it.  It helps with training too.  The ferrets that were not litter box trained when we got them, we were able to train them easily using ferretone as a positive reward.  Just remember that ferrets will back into ANY convenient corner to go to the bathroom, so when you have them loose, having multiple litter boxes out is key!

Dude i have a ferret and let me tell you, he's the sweetest animal ever, tons of fun. He does smell a little but there is spray for that. He seems to like anything with rubber, so you may want to keep that stuff out of reach. Either way you won't regret getting one, me and my roomate smoke and play with Fin almost every day.

I dated a girl who had a ferret. He was the shit, taking him out for walks was cool too because tons of people would stop and stare, come up to talk to us, go get their kids to come look at the "weasel", lol.
