CN- Stock of interest - PNK- pinnacle casino

While looking for low cost stocks in underpreforming markets I came across a list of casino stocks, this one interested me very much.

Pinnacle owns and operates a number of casinos nationally and also in argentina a list of their properties can be found on their website here

the also hold a few interesting developments
they include a newly permitted casino development that will be bigger than both of the 2 existing riverboats in new orleans combined.
they also own the property in atlantic city that the Sands used to be sitting on untill they tore it down (prime realestate)

they also have several issues on the ballots this november all of which are laws to lift the legal amount of wagering that a patron can bet in a certain period of time, and also increase the hours of operation.
this is set to happen with the election on nov 3rd,

furthermore they are going to be holding a conference call nov 8th before the market opens to discuss their quarterly profits.

My un-educated position on this is as follows.
i think that atleast some of the bills up for vote will pass, which will increase the ability of the company to make a profit.
which would increase stock prices
however a short fall on earnings estimates would negate this effect.

however should it meet or exceed its earnings even in this harsh economic climate i think that the stock would preform very well.

regardless it seems like its definately going to be a very active stock in the next 3 weeks for better or worse.

but like i said this is my un-educated opinion.

anyone care to chime in with a different view?

That involves a lot of hope right there my friend. This harsh economic climate is exactly the type that causes patrons to go less and spend less at the casino. One of my friends is a professional gambler and he attests to this fact. If employment continues to rise and consumers continue to get strapped, I don't know what they'll do but it won't be high stakes poker! So even though these casino stocks have been beaten to hell and back, I think there are other stocks which will work better now... whereas the casino/gaming stocks are in for an exceptionally rough road if the economy continues to deteriorate.

What stocks will work better? It's going to have to be a company with little consumer discretionary exposure, little debt or need for financing, and preferably one which has solid cash flow for a safe dividend. Dividend yields today are totally freaking sweet now that share prices have come down in aggregate so much (you just have to make sure the company has the cash to continue paying them). As I noted in your other thread, GE has already comitted to its $1.24 dividend through the end of 2009.
