Confident AND humble is it possible?

Confident AND humble is it possible?

These are two character traits I consider to be massively important.  Yet it's almost contradictory to possess them both.

For example, say your in a job interview.  How do you go about explaining how your well aware of your abilities and are willing to make a stand on things you believe in and still give the impression that you know you can be wrong occasionally and know when to seek help?

Holy shit.  Being confident and humble is possible.  This combo must certainly be the most attractive personality trait to have!

To think these two traits are contradictory is false.  Being a pussy and being confident are contradictory.  Being humble is simply believing that you are not 'better' than other people.  That doesn't mean you have to be a pussy to be equal with everyone else.  You just have to be proud in your existence, and believe that you can help others become confident as well with some guidance.

As for the example, well, be honest about your skills, and then be honest about how you weren't born with them and you had to apply yourself to become the best you can be.

I figure it's easier to be humble when you have skills and abilities to back up your confidence.

Well I guess honesty would be damn important here...

Okay,  I'll continue with the interview scenario.  How about in terms of your outlook on things.  So before the interview you tell yourself "I'm going to nail this".  Then your quick to look at this as being cocky so you'll say "Well, I'll try my best".  So by realizing your getting cocky you demonstrated the fact your humble with the cost of destroying your confidence by throwing in things like TRYING....

I agree that it is possible to be both humble and confident at the same time, only that I don't agree with what you said in here.
I think that being better than others is real, as real as others being better than you. :wink: We have different abilities, and, as opposed to others, we are better or worse at practicing certain skills, we have lower and higher IQ's and so on. Thinking the opposite can cause quite a problem, as it doesn't have anything to do with reality, and when one's plans and judgments are based on error, the outcome doesn't look so good.
I think that the problem is one of acceptance, on how we deal when we find out that we are better or that we are worse than somebody else, how these things affect us. Some might become "pussies" as you call them, others might become ego inflated, and humbleness in all of that would be remaining emotionally balanced while dealing with what others call success or failure.
