First job interview tomorrow
    #3753726 -

I don't know what to do, social anxiety bothers me daily and the doctor just wants to put me on SSRIs. Tomorrow is my first job interview and I think I'm going to get drunk (it's either this or I don't think I'm showing up) any advice on how much I can drink without it being noticeable? Tips for making it less noticeable?

I wouldn't suggest going there drunk, maybe a shot or two of hard liquor.

But you also don't want to go there smelling like alcohol, which is a good possibility.

I find telling myself stuff like 'this will have no impact on my future' makes me quite a bit more calm.

ya I have one of those little sample bottles of vodka (I think it has about 2 shots in it) so I was going to slam that before I brush my teeth THOROUGHLY.

I realize it's not a wise decision at all but my parents have been pushing me to go and get a job and if I back out of this interview I hate to see what they think.

Well what's the job? You mentioned your parents, so I'm guessing it's nothing too intense?

McDonalds, the fear isn't that I won't get the job, but that I'll make a fool of myself in the interview due to being so nervous.

You're going to get an alcohol buzz in order to go to an interview at McDonald's? I find that hilarious for some reason. Don't get hammered. Wait.....who am I kidding, they'll still probably hire you.

McDonald's? It's a bit funny that you want to get drunk just to get interviewed there, seriously, they'll accept anyone. Just relax man, walk in there, keep your mind focused and you'll be fine. Don't get drunk, that's not a smart move, even though at McDonald's I doubt they'll even notice.

I'm with Ravus, you can handle this without getting drunk. Social anxiety CAN be overcome, I know, I've been there, the only way to do it is to try. Don't just give up because you don't think you can handle it, once you're there, it really won't be that bad.

Breathe deeply if you start to panic and just remind yourself of who you are and that you're there for employment. Nothing bad will happen to you. You'll either get the job, or you won't and you can try again somewheres else.

I know how nerve-racking it can be in that environment, but don't let it get to you.

and I dont recomend getting drunk either....

(p.s. if you know the difference between a pickle and an onion than you probably meet their qualifications)

umm, dont show up drunk - that's just retarded.
do some meditation beforehand - just relax your body.

I mean, come on man.
if you are so nervous you have to hit a bottle before a McDonald's interview, you're going to have a tough life ahead of you...

McDonald's is VERY relaxed when it comes to hiring/firing people. I've been to a McDonald's (actaully I think it was Burger King) where the employees smoked marijuana AT the resturant and then continued their work obviously high as hell. They continued to have extremely obvious conversations about their bubbler and their bud they were going to smoke tomorrow.

Everything is fine, man. I promise you. Even if you were to have a few shots to "take the edge off"
A- They might not care even if they noticed.
B- You could use Listerene. (sp)
C- There are other jobs even if they did perceive the alcohol odor, which they probably won't.

Relax, breathe deep, think clearly; you don't need drugs.

You shouldn't have any problem.  When I was 18 I walked into McDonalds and walked out with a job.  Fast food managers love:

1. Yes Mam, Yes Sir
2. A good sense of humor (i.e. smile)
3. Make EYE CONTACT!!
4. Lean your body forward a bit so you look engrossed in what he/she is talking about.
5. If they don't hire you on the spot, be persistant!!  Keep calling back and talking to the manager, asking if they had a chance to look over your application yet.  Being persistant and showing a lot of interest is key.

Above all, have confidence in yourself.  You can get this job, man.  Just relax.  If you go in for the interview all fucked up you're going to be constantly worrying if the manager can tell if "somethings up" and it's going to ruin your interview.

Good luck.

I was on SSRI's for quite a while,I found that it was just a temporary solution. One way that helped me get over social anxiety is I ask myself "will this kill me?". The answer is always no.It sucks to be afraid to be in public and social settings.
I've always been a shy person and I'm very nervous of large crowds such as malls, amusement parks,clubs,etc..I found that my fear of social situations diminished greatly after I forced myself to talk to people and go to crowded places.
It's not easy but it's possible.
If you need to talk too someone P.M me,if one thing social anxiety taught me it is how to listen.

I find it funny a person with social anxiety disorder is trying to get a job at McDonalds, where you will constantly be dealing with strangers. Maybe factory/manual labor would be better for you, plus you'll get payed a hell of a lot more.
