anxiety and job hunting

i want to look for a part time job so that i can work during this next school semester but I'm scared to even ask for an application.

i fear looking all fidgety and nervous with pressured speech. and I'm even more nervous about any possible job interviews that i may get. part of me wants to just stop being a wimp and go do it...and maybe screw up a few times...hoping that the anxiety will go away....but taking this initial step....is hard....I've gotten all ready...put on nice clothes...know where i want to apply...but can't take a step out the door. what is wrong with me? does anyone have any suggestions to help me?

Get a friend to help you practice!  You can get a book on interviewing well from your local library & have your friend ask you questions from it, then offer suggestions based on what they observe.

IMO, repetition is one of the best ways to eliminate anxious feelings about an action.  Rehearse over and over and over again, until you know what your response will be.  If your friend is not available, you can also rehearse in front of a mirror.  Do ask a friend to rate your handshake, though.  You can communicate a lot with a nice firm, confident handshake at the beginning of your interview.

Rest assured that your fears are normal. I have never been completely calm at a job interview. Don't expect to be perfect. Veritas has given some good advice. :thumbup: :heart:

everybody gets a bit nervous.

the adrenaline and anxiety can actually help you. it makes you sharp.

and usually, the interview is brief.

Taking everything else others have said into consideration; wing it!

I got cold feet in the past as well and it's because I was just thinking about things too much and not doing them. Checking out your dope avatar I was reminded that there's times where you just need to sort things out and balance them in your mind, otherwise it will never be sound!

Definitely tell us how the interviews go, good or bad. The worst that could happen is that you fubar a couple of words, feel akward for about 30 seconds, and learn so much from the funny experience. You'll develop kickass social skills once you hit the workforce, that was a very exciting time for me.

Your virtue will be not without reward. lol :hitlerdance: :apple::tomato::apple: :hitlerdance:

that's for sure...
i was even going to suggest a couple beers or a couple shots of liquor, but that's a bit alcoholic of me. lol i'm sure as long as you had some good deoderant on and a breath mint, everything would be fine.

everything's better when you're all drugged up!

If I get uncomfortable I try to think of a good event in my life and that helps relax me. Picture the event, the people around you, the weather, the smells.
