Trays for straw.

Hello,

Im going to buy my trays for straw very soon and wanted some advice. I was thinkign of doing 1ft X 1ft X 8in containers. I would be putting approx 1.5-2 quart jars of colonized rye per container, all mixed fully through with straw. Is this a good size for a container? Also what do all you guys use for containers? Like brand and where you got it would be great. Thanks

I got one of thoese deep metal trays used in deli's. Stolen, not bought. But it works great! =)

I like metal trays because before i use them i put foil over the top and put them in the oven for a couple hours.Put the straw in plastic bags after pasteurizing,i bleach mine,put the spawn in the bags,mix it up.I let it start spawning for a day or two.Put the pan in a fruiting chamber,mix the bag a little,pull the foil back,pour in the pan,put foil back.I hope this helps,this is the only way that contamination can be controled in a non lab setting for me anyway.If your asking about a fruiting chamber then search the posts.

I use thick black plastic containers.
The come with lids and are good and sturdy.
I cut a hole in the lid and viola, terrarium.
So far it works well for me.
I`d suggest that you keep your substrate nice and thick otherwise I find the flushes tend to decrease.
Also possibly consider using some poo as well.
Either just a layer ontop for a contamination barrier or as a mix with the straw.
