Ok, AFOAF is looking into doing a little more than just your average casings. He was wondering which method was best to grow Ps. Cubensis. Using just hay or using manure as well, or even worm castings. He was thinking about using a 66 quart plastic container, taping a few inches of the sides. Sterilizing hay, verm and manure and water all together, and then incubating spawn with this for a while. Then adding a coco and verm casing layer. Basically just using the entire container as a huge casing. Would this work well? Humidity being generated by the wet casing and gas exchange with fanning and an air pump. Any info on where he could find some useful information on using hay and manure? Thanks!

Just be absolutely certain that your spawn is contaminant free. Also make sure all components are cleaned. All it takes is one mental error, and you lose all that substate. But definetly go for it.

Yes...that sounds fine...sounds like you're goin for the mother load eh? Just be sure to pasteurize your hay/poop and not sterilize. And listen to Teonan!! Take care...bassplayer74

don't use hay, use straw. Hay will contaminate, straw is much more selective. I wouldn't count on an air pump for air exchange. Doing very similar things, I got contams way more often when using air pumps. Until I figured out how to hook up a coolmist corectly, I had to just leave the lids off to keep contams at bay. Aside from that it will work great. Expect huge yields if you use a decent substrate depth. 66 quart tub can yield over a 1/4 pound dry per flush. enjoy

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.
