I got the impression he had taken amphetamines right as he was walking onstage, before he even started speaking.  The look in his eyes just seemed like he'd taken amphetamine; his speaking merely corroborated my suspicions.  Just compare his debate performance tonight to the previous two (in terms of body language, reactions, and the manner in which he organised his points/thoughts).

As to trying to get his points across, I imagine he thought it would help.  In Bush's debates with Kerry, I very strongly suspect Bush was on amphetamines (as evidenced by his demeanor and his constant jaw-motion), and that seemed to help him out.

Yes. But no one is suggesting he was binging or taking a recreational dosage.  I imagine (if he was on amphetamines) it was legally prescribed by his doctor, and he took a relatively low amount; he wanted to be alert and on his game, not twacked out of his head.

i agree...he does seem really uppity. he was blinkin up a fuckin storm. wasn't he making some dumbass talking point about not blinking some time ago? anywho - best debate yet i thought. really tired of the overplayed ad hominem though. so much fucking theater... in any case i'm glad obama is showing some decency in his debates and is a bit more humble in his approaches towards the entire process - mccain just seems like a self assured ass that thinks everyone else has it wrong.

I don't think he's really trying to fuck up or get pity votes, but like the character Spud from Trainspotting, he doesn't mean to fuck up, he just does.
Putting him against a younger, more charismatic candidate would be like putting a random guy in a televised popularity contest with Johnny Depp... he's just out of his league as far as appealing to people goes.

America has proven before that sometimes they vote for the more charismatic of the two, or the younger of the two...
What was the one debate first to be televised, one of the candidates had makeup artists work on him, the second didn't, the second was sweating under the lights the entire time... the first guy won on a landslide.

Some people just vote for the more attractive, or younger, or more charismatic candidate because its easier than thinking about the issues.  And as Howard Stern managed to show, some people are voting for Obama specifically because of his race...
I wish they had provided some statistics... like, did they have to talk to 50 people to get these three responses?  Or did three of the 5 people they talked to first respond this way.
But then again, its Howard Stern :shrug:
