IMO the final Tool album is going to be out of this... universe. I heard a lot of people I know say "Yeah, I think 10k days is going to be their last album" when it had come out. But honestly, do you think a band like Tool would ever let an album like 10k days be their last album? Don't get me wrong, I love the album, and for those who don't you really need to give it a chance. But there's no way in hell a band like Tool would let 10k days be their last album. I mean honestly... songs like Parabol/Parabola, 4 degrees, The Patient, Third Eye... the list goes on and on - could an album like that really be their last? No way.

Like I said, Tools final album is going to be so insanely out of control (IMO it'll probably be like 6 or so really fucking insane long songs) that people won't be bored with it for a looong time. Just my $.02 though.

There is no 'new zep'. Music is so different now, there are SO MANY great artists making so many different and original kinds of music.
Most people don't realize we are in the middle of an underground music explosion in a few years the mainstream will catch on, there is a lot of new interesting music out there but there is noone quite like TOOL.

If the song extensions at their final shows were any hint their next one is going to be some 2010 shit.

I loved Lateralus deeply and, as an album, entirely, from beginning to end ... just so amazing in every way.

... but 10,000 Days is very disappointing and brought my opinion of Tool down quite a bit.  It is definitely creative and ambitious, and is certainly "Tool-esque", but it lacks something that brings it all together, something unique or special to make the album stand out.  It mostly just sounds like a random assortment of ideas they compiled rather than a well-thought out, linear album like Lateralus.

By the way, has anybody heard whether Tool will be releasing an album any time soon?  If they are still recording as a band together, I have high hopes and a lot of optimism that the next album will be a big step up from 10,000 Days ... and I hope to not be disappointed with that assumption!  If they release another Lateralus-type epic, I will forget 10,000 Days ever happened and have a renewed love for them.  Here's hoping ...

I didn't like it at first either but my roomates forced me to listen to it 72 times and I really started to get it. It does seem kind of incoherent though I think that's intentional.

I've listened to it a fair number of times, but I never got more into it than I did in the beginning.  It's just missing some of the Lateralus "magic" which made that album SO epic in every way.

Yeah Lateralus is still my favorite. Have you heard the extended Schism they played at the last few shows?

You have to admit that 11 count in Rosetta Stoned is big magic.

Yeah, it's impressive for sure ... but it just doesn't hit the mark!  I'm really stubborn about the album, I really ... sadly ... dislike it altogether.  So don't listen to me, I'm stubborn and biased!

nope, but Schism is THE SHIT.  I always wanted to see them play live so bad, but I never get the chance ... the closest they've ever played to me is San Diego, they never play around the LA area.

maynard j.k is kinda a douche, but i respect his music and tool is still probably one of my favorite bands. but he never talks to the crowd at shows, and is an ass more often than not in his interviews. sure i hate a lot of tool fans and the media too, but its what made you not have to sell shoes for a living. my 2 cents he's a pissy bitch

ha, what? u obviously havent heard very many live tool shows, or even one or two for that matter....he DOES talk to the audience, quite a LOT actually

I mean, damn. Every time I listen to 46&2 I get shivers down my spine, boost the bass, max the volume, and it's nothing less than simply elevating spiritual experience. Apart from the kickass bass line, you just gotta love the theme

Awww butt-hurt because I don't agree with you, how very typical of a response.  I'm speaking from my own opinion of their later works, compared with their earlier work.  I've been listening to them since they first came out, and I listened to them with a fever of admiration and thought-provoking wonder.  I continue to do so today.  I just think that the message has become rather bland compared to earlier works and even lyrically acknowledging dogma in the semi-reverent tone Maynard does in 10,000 days... well it just is one of my favorite bands moving in an opposite direction than me.  Maybe your tiny ganglion of a brain can comprehend this?

Yes, I love country boner.  It took my cousin playing it numerous times to get me to like it, but really it's fucking great for a laugh.
