The Ayahuasca thread is just a bunch of gibberish... it doesn't SAY anything. Links w/chemical talk, nobody actually SAYS anything... not to mention it talks about exclusively NEW chemicals and disregards the idea of getting Mescaline, DMT or other chems into shrooms. That's what people really wanna know I think. How about this: FOAF has decided to put Peruvian Torch in his substrate. should he put it in place of verm. or brown rice flour? I advised him to cut his BRF in half and use half PT (1/8 cup & 1/8 cup each) and keep total vermiculite... how does that sound?
btw, for those who say psilocin is only raised and you need an awesome drying tek... try this: eat 'em fresh!

Salvinorin is not an alkaloid and little is even understood about the receptors it affects.

The best you can do is experiment, but your probably just trashing your nice Sally plant.

I think your wasting your Peruvian Torch. Considering you half to ingest about a foots length of the cactus itself to feel the desired effects i really dont think there is any way possible to get enough of the mesciline(sp) content into the substrate to make any noticable effects. maybe if you used some sort of concentrate?

from what i've read some (i think, could be all) shrooms already have small traces of DMT in them.

I would bet my left testicle that putting salvia into the substrate wouldn't do anything at all. First off salvinorin-A (the active chem in salvia) is a diterpene, not a tryptamine, so the fungus almost certainly wouldn't know what to do with it in terms of converting it into goodies. If it did somehow change the diterpene, I for one wouldn't want to be the first to ingest the stuff and see if it was horribly toxic or turned me into a newt or something. Admittedly that would be unlikely, but still... If the salvinorin-A weren't changed by the fungus and just ended up in the shrooms it wouldn't cause any noticible psycoactivity. The key to achieving any significant salvinorin-A psychoactivity is getting a "ton" in your system/bloodstream in a very short amout of time (seconds). Actually its not a ton, as salvinorin-A is the most potent psychoactive chem known, but relative to the concentration you find in the plant material its a ton. Rapid smoking is the only way to get a salvia breakthrough - the oral route just won't cut it. Plus it just tastes nasty, IMHO. :P Salvia quids (leaves rolled up into chewing tobacco type plugs) supposedly can be sucked on for hours to give a very mild level of psychoactivity, but I've never been able to get anything from them...
For a good orgo textbook check out Organic Chemsitry, 3rd Ed, Francis A. Carey. Just checked out the diterpene entry: under the class of terpenes - 20 carbon terpenes being diterpenes - principle volatile compound of plant essential oil often a terpene - terpenes distinguished by isoprene unit - other diterpenes listed: cembrene (from pine), Vitamin A - other terpenes listed: monoterpenes (10 carbon) menthol, citral (from lemon grass); tetraterpenes (40 carbon) Beta Carotene (from carrots). Kinda interesting.
Goloheb - I replied to your post on the main board. I forgot one thing. On the chance that doping the substrate with PT did work, the shrooms would taste ABSOLUTELY FUCKING TERRIBLE. My neighbors dog informed me that eating enough raw san pedro cutting to achieve a good effect was the most heinous culinary experience of his life. Of the four other dogs that were eating the cuttings with him, 1 called it quits after the first bite and the other 3 vomited repeatedly during the eating process.

I don't mean to be negative and shit on your proverbial "substrate doping parades" but I'm just pretty skeptical about these two plans of attack - especially with salvia. Anyway, I'm still interested to see how these things turn out. Keep me posted!

Chances are salvia in the substrate would do nothing...

The only reason DMT may do something (and the results seem inconclusive) is that the mycelium may put a HO on the 4 position, changing DMT into 4-HO-DMT (psilocin). All of this is essentialy straight out of TiHKAL.

As sidd already said, salvinorin is pretty much unrelated to psilocin or psilocybin. Who knows what the hell will happen though. If you dont care about possibly being out some Salvia or a cake, give it a shot.
