Fainting due to low blood pressure?

So I'm prone to feeling light-headed and my vision darkening if I stand up too fast from a sitting position or I haven't drunk much water that day.  Lately, though, I've experienced the intensifying of this situation, particularly when I'm under the influence of MJ/alcohol and I smoke tobacco.

Last night, I drank about six shots, smoked a bowl, and headed out to the hookah bar with a friend.  I was having a blast--enjoying that delicious nicotine buzz coursing through my system, talking it up, and listening to music.  Probably one of my most enjoyable hookah sessions.

So I get up, walk about twenty feet to the register and pay for hookah, and as I start to leave the bar my vision starts going dark, like I normally get when I stand up too fast.  Ordinarily this only lasts thirty seconds and clears right up, but this time things just got darker and darker--and the next thing I remember is waking up on the floor.  I tried to stand up to my feet, but made it a foot higher in the air before I wake up again with my head back on the floor.  This cycle repeats about six times until I finally have the energy to stumble back up and make my way back to the car, where I feel out of it for the next good hour.

Now, WTF caused this?  Should I be worried that I suffered minor brain damage from apoxia during my black out?  I know that this can be due to low blood pressure, but why would I keep on passing out and waking up again?  I've heard potassium can help with this, but I already take a fair amount in my daily supplements.  Any ideas on how to prevent this from happening again?

I have low blood pressure and lots of problems with fainting too. They went away for the most part when I changed my eating habits around. I have a very fast metabolism and would often be left feeling weak soon enough after meals because all the glucose would get used up or stored in fairly short order. Adding lots of fats and reducing sugars drastically seem to have helped this a bunch.

Do you suspect anemia at all?

I've had this happening to me too, and once I had the exact same symptoms like you did. Low blood pressure is only one reason why you might feel like that, as it has a lot to do with smoking tobacco, as I learned from my personal experience.
I don't know about alcohol since I hardly ever drink, but I assume that, if in large quantities, it can greatly influence and aggravate the dizziness and lightheadedness.

I quit smoking and it helped me a lot, I don't remember having anything like that ever since. Maybe it's time for you to quit smoking? :sherlock:
Also, some ginko biloba might help.

Yeah, I think it might be time to lay off on extravagant hookah sessions.  Apparently a lot of salt helps with this.

I know gingko biloba helps with memory, but what effects does it have on this?

It has the ability to improve your blood flow, or so it is said. :shrug:

I don't know if it is only a coincidence or not, but, before I even stopped smoking and started taking ginko biloba, all these symptoms you're talking about didn't happen so often anymore. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't consider quitting tobacco. :hehehe:

This happened to me but minus tobacco and plus an intense vape session that lasted far too long.

Dunno about that.  Ginkgo is a vasodilator, and lowers blood pressure.  Eat plenty of salt and drink plenty of water.  You can see a doctor about getting salt pills as well.

Look up "orthostatic hypotension".

Edit: apparently when I was unconscious I was twitching to the point where my friend thought I was having a seizure (I hit my head on the ground as a result of this.)

Apparently, from my limited readings, both alcohol and tobacco can increase the likelihood of this happening.  Yikes.

OK, so due to some online research it looks like I had a convulsive syncope.

It is prudent to do an EEG, it should be normal if you actually do have convulsive syncope. The most important test is probably the EKG to ensure that you do not have a cardica rhythm disturbance which caused you to faint.


I'm pretty sure it was dehydration and/or my excessively long hookah sesh that caused this--I figure I'll use this as a good incentive to quit smoking, though.

I think marijuana can increase the likelihood of this happening as well. Its happened to me before when Ive been stoned. The reason you kept fainting was probably because you tried to get up straight after fainting. If it happens again try sitting on the ground until your head feels normal, then get up.
