Yes, speaking in tounges is idiotic.  So is most religion.  While particularly crazy, and not to be one of those cultural relativists that say murder isn't wrong it just seems that way cuz of our 'culture', I don't think speaking in tounges or that other hoohaw is  any big deal and would be something nobody cared about if we all came from homes where it was done.  Completely harmless.


And given obama's preacher, which is another irrelevancy except the part where obama lies about the man and their relationship, I don't see the relevance unless your advocating a third party.


Ron Paul is a christian.  Obama and Palin are christians.  Bob Barr at least voted for conservative christian causes in a past life, and likely claimed to be one (which I vehemntly oppose most of the time yet I'll vote for Barr).  Cynthia McKinney is listed as christian on wikipedia (though with no source I could find). My girlfriend is a christian.  Deal with it.



This is no different than complaining that "zomg, obama did cocaine"

Who cares?  Its all just crap that is culturally offensive to some people and associated with other stupidity.  Now if their's any evidence Obama is a pimp or a crazed drug lord, bring it forth.  If there's any evidence Palin would not respect the first amendment, bring it forth.

But leave this shit alone.  It's irrelevant to all but the most nutty intolerant folks who's belief in the absence of a god is every bit as much as a faith as Christianity is.

It is much different than if bill clinton smoked pot, smoking pot is nothing like speaking in tongues, it doesn't even compare.

It would make her someone who engages in idiotic behavior, by my standards, if she speaks in tounges in some religious daze or whatever.

It doesn't mean I can judge her as a person to be idiotic if this is true.

And it also doesn't mean I give a shit about it.  I think several christian beliefs are pretty dumb, and that the religion, as such and not simply as a social club/movement or moral code, is dumb.  That doesn't mean I don't care for christians.

I really do not think McCain is a bad guy. I really do prefer him over Obama. But WHY did he choose Palin. It was an incredibly stupid move. I have a lot of respect for McCain, he doesn't let religion hold him back. But he picks some fucking crazy religious nut case.

Her speaking in tounges means nothing, except she speaks in tounges.


I don't see the difference in someone smoking pot in the amounts you refer to.  I'm concerned with what they would do as president.  Given that religion is often in our society a social club, a family event, and political prerequisite, I don't see how her religion and speaking in tounges is relevant.


If we were living in an area where religion was illegal, it might make her decisions more likely to indicate something about her.  I know many religious folks who attend church regularly and don't buy the crap they say their and yet are religious.


I just don't think these allegations matter at all.  Untill someone can say what this means, if true, and how that reflects her beliefs, I don't care.


I know religious people who think premarital sex is immoral to god when that's not in the bible and is something just made up by their pastor/priest.  I know people who think the same about 'drugs' (though we can never develop an objective culturaly-neutral definition of what these are).  I also know folks who go to church, don't believe in the religion, and know that the priest is just making things up when he talks about sex, drugs, and other popular nonsense being outlawed in teh bible.


Just cuz someone goes to a church and participates means nothing other than that itself- and that isn't relevant to anything as their fitness for presidency.

There are gray areas, sure.  They could be cleared up a bit by a few questions, taking into the assumption that she is an adult and could choose to practice a less extreme form of Christianity.  Is it her childhood church?  What kind of family history within the religion does she have?  If she just thought Pentecostalism was neat, well then, we start to run into some issue with judgment.  I mean, she could think that speaking in tongues is somehow an effective method of teaching morality (or the evils of plurality?) to her children.

I'd like to see her explain her views on this, because there are noble approaches (although I don't think a candidate should HAVE to answer those questions).  To be honest though, their are just certain practices that are near impossible to spin.

I disagree with your disagreement over relativism.  I could give more examples, but I think it's one of those concepts that one has to come to understand themselves.

I know I originally extrapolated more out of your words than was there, but it was to make what I see as a valid point; I hope you understand.
