Stamets claims that a percentage of people (16%, if I remember correctly) are allergic
to psilocybe cubensis...

they were dried sitting out in the air.
They were not cracker dry.
I always fan dry mine and then put them in a jar with dessicant.
I didn't grow these, unfortunately I have more that I am afraid to eat.

Keep in mind that Stamets is talking about an allergy to a mushroom species, not to the chemical psilocybin. That type of allergy rate isn't exceptional for mushrooms - a lot of people can't eat the ones from the store. Also, food allergies to mushrooms are by genus - if you're allergic to Psilocybe, that doesn't tell you if you're allergic or not to Panaeolus or Agaricus.

Happy mushrooming!

if one was allergic, could he/she then get by with making tea, instead of eating the fruits, with out getting much of a reaction?

420Girl seems to be allergic. When ever she trips on shrooms her face puffs up and her tear ducts go crazy, she literally cannot stop crying. she says her throat feels like it's closed up.

She still like to trip?
She should eat lots of benadryl.

It might help. It depends on if whatever it is in the mushrooms you're allergic to also dissolves into the tea. If not, then you have a solution. Definitely don't mess with food allergies, though - people die of that stuff. If you're desperate, maybe you should look into extracting just the psilocybin and psilocin, which is a bit more complicated than just making tea.

I belive I am allergic to Psilocybe cubensis. Whenever I eat them my experiance is fine until the 3-4 hour, just after the peak and I'm coming down I get some really unpleasent effects. My hands swell and turn red, my skin gets clamy and in some spots red and blotchy, and my blood pressure sky rockets which isn't normal at all for me. Its almost like the allergy and the psilocybin synergize each other to create a whole new trippy allergic reaction that is extremely unpleasent.

This only happens to me with cubes though, I've eaten azures, weilii, copes, and my new species and had no such problems. Cubensis is not a true Psilocybe, it is a stropharia improperly placed in the Psilocybe genus, just look at them, they have almost no resemblence to ny other Psilocybes. Real Psilocybes have no negative effects on me, just them damn old cubes, maybe thats why the indians of southern mexico won't eat cubies and consider them inferrior ?

I sure as hell don't eat cubes anymore, I have plenty of other mushrooms around here that are far better than cubes minus the bad effects, no reason for me to eat cubensis.
