psychadelic buttons
    #893107 - 09/19/02 11:12 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

why do some people pull meaning from tripping, (i happen to be one of these), and others just do it "for fun" and dont seem to get any supernatural feelings at all.(have many many friends who dont feel "god, gods, mystical", whatever  what about the psychadelic experience turns that button on for certain people...

could it be subconsious memories shook loose and brought to surface?
perhaps everyone does feel a "deeper" thing there?
perhaps some of my friends may be hesatent to say how they really feel, fearing persicution?

1ne..

One word: setandsetting.

I lost a peyote button hole once.

The other time I didn't.

Cheers,

I think it depends entirely on their way of viewing the world around them. Some people are completely and proudly unspiritual, which is fine by me. I certainly wouldn't expect that they would interpret any of the effects of the drug as being 'supernatural,' or of some higher origin. At the other end of the spectrum are people who interpret EVERYTHING profound as some sort of sign from God. Visages of the Virgin Mary in breakfast cereal is common to some.

hmmm... i agree with you, chump... but there are exceptions to that case... i know a few people who were completely and proudly unspiritual, decided to take a level 5 trip and returned enveloped from god... blissfully enlightened...

but then that raises the question, if most people here in the s&p forum have had some kind of "awakening" experience with drugs, why is that?

Some people are  genuinely interested in finding out who they are.  Others would rather be told who they are, they prefer the safety of the herd.  :frown:

I have ALWAYS wished for this type of experience. I've never seen anything that hasn't been there unless I was on .large amounts of MDMA. The closest experience I would have to something like this was an intense mind trip with parts of my psyche taking form and showing me a slideshow in my minds eye. I visualised this little guy with a HUGE nose. He had a weird helium type voice. He would pick up random objects from out of nowhere, sniff it(with his huge nose), and talk about either how interesting that object was or how ridiculus it was and would then toss it to the side. It was very odd and every now and then he'd make honking noises(presumably to the music that was playing that i was unaware of).

There was also this guy with no features in a green and black universe(like old school computers) that was controlled by some sort of programming type simple commands.

150 mg mdma, 10 mg 2ct2, 10 mg 2ci, nitrous, salvia, K, weed.

was physically comatose for about 4-6 hours. Funny thing was that I came out of it and was coherent only when someone offered more K. Odd to say the least, and i'm still slowly making sense of it. Everytime I have tripped since, a lil more of it comes back.

I think it's more of a fear of letting go to the things that make people feel comforted, like who they think they are, and what they think they know... Alot of people trip and they feel like they could "go off the edge" so they desperately try and stay on solid ground, where every thing makes sense. I think this fear is something everyone has, just that some people are more willing to venture into the unknown and let go of the ego, while others desperately hold onto it because of these fears...

Yes fear of letting go of the safety of what they know. That's a good way of putting it.

Which brand do you recommend to give me the highest likelihood of having such a visage?

if you guys want to experience what is known as "the religious experience" you need to first read and study " the Psychedelic experience" by Tim Leary which is based on the ancient tibetan book of the dead. The information in the book is ESSENTIAL for gettting to "the clear light" and maintaining the state of pure enlightenment, which is what they call "religious" to me it's more like a "supernatural phenomenon between the divine and the mortal" HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THESE SUBSTANCES CAN AND WILL EXPAND YOUR RANGE OF COUNCIOUSNESS INTO THAT OF EXTRA SENSORY PERCEPTION. ANYONE CAN GET TO THE CLEAR LIGHT AND EXPERIENCE THE RELIGIOUS REVELATIONS... BUT IT'S EASIER TO READ THE BOOK FIRST THEN DOSE WITH THE WORDS STILL IN YOUR MIND.... I PROMISE IT WILL BE WORTH IT... IT WON'T BE JUST ANOTHER HIGH.

In reply to:

Setting (the physical context of a trip) is only one part of the influence. A much greater determinant is 'set' (the mental context), of which there are as many as there are minds. No two people will feel the same 'it.'

In reply to:

I only used the analogy of a linear spiritual spectrum to illustrate the relationship between people's beliefs and what they get out of a trip. I think it's more than just a one-dimensional line along which everyone falls on some point. Some people may be very spiritual, but still take drugs ONLY for recreational purposes. I think people tend to find what they are looking for.

I don't doubt it. Any strong trip is quite a profound experience, and has the insidious tendency to force one to re-evaluate one's entire belief system. That may result in a spiritual or religious awakening, or it may destroy an existing spiritual system.

Wheaties of course. The breakfast of champions. Lucky Charms if you're looking for L Ron Hubbard.

I thought Lucky Charms was for when you want to see the Leprechauns (elves).

and what i wanted to add is that you never know what the unconcsious or overconscious is wishing to experience during a trip... your head might just want to have fun, but your subconscious is going "no no my friend, not this time... im gonna have a little fun with you"... and zing your view of life changes... and maybe even your overconscious (higher self) says "ok, im going to show you what you really are, and what this is all about"... and boom you return knowing that WE ARE ALL ONE... fact is, you never now what experiences you are attracting to yourself
