So McCain's pro-war stance nullfies Obama's untenable policies?

Both candidates are bad.  I honestly don't know which is worse.

Yes, starting the war was a bad idea. Does that nullify his completely untenable social and economic policies?

Lay off the vapor long enough to legitimately consider his merits and you might stop this mindless cheerleading.

McCain has a health care plan what is that the "walk it off" approach?

My favorite policy of Obama's is that I am working on a medical degree, and I plan on using it to back a marijuana dispensery of my own in California once I am done. I anticipate being done in 6 years or so, a time where choices by current candidates will affect whether or not I can do this under the blessing of the law. Obama has already declared that he will not use justice department resources to conduct raids on marijuana caregivers and dispensaries in states where the state has deemed it legal, even if it means changes to federal law.

Obama has stated: "I don't think that should be a top priority of us, raiding people who are using ... medical marijuana", medical marijuana patients/users are not raided by the DEA, I can't find one case of a MM user being raided by the DEA. Basically, stop what isn't happening, or maybe Obama is dodging the issue?

When he was again asked if he would end federal raids of caregivers he stated: "You know, it's really not a good use of Justice Department resources."

He really appears to be dodging the issue, but like I said in another thread he probably can't take any anti-drug war stance or he would lose the election.

Another clear policy difference about Obama that I like is the ability for college students to get 4000 a year as long as they put time in a social betterment program. I already do this and it would make student loans a hell of a lot easier to pay for.

Another clear policy difference is Obama's stance on contraceptive based sex education rather than abstinence only. I believe strongly that abstinence only sex education is a reason why so many teenagers are unaware of some of the simplest contraceptive measures and are unsure of how to take proper steps in contraception.

I can keep going and going and going... there are a TON of places where I agree with Obama on more than McCain.

For instance, stem cells... science funding... Man, if you want to see some crazy specifics, read this... 14 questions from scientists that Obama answers with specifics. McCain has not even answered it yet:

http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/09/obama-answers-y.html

I agree with everything else, I don't know how feasible these promises are but they are good, and we (with common sense) know that abstinence only sex ed is retarded, it is basically DARE with a different agenda.

This is probably the best summary for Obama policies I've seen, Obama should have something like that on his website, I've read through his website a couple of times now and the issues pages are cumbersome and some seem ambiguous.

    #8870079 -

Chemy, you know we agree on the "stop raiding patients" bullshit.  It is obviously a ploy to make people's ignorance into outrage.  "OMG we're raiding MM patients"

Clearly that isn't happening cuz the DEA doesn't care if you've got an ounce or two of pot.

But I found something recent in another thread I argued with supernovasky about and I'll copy that thread below.  Supernovasky also maid another claim that some obama guy claimed his position was not to raid dispensiearies, but supernovasky never provided a source and I can't verify if that is just more bullshit "won't raid patients" that people misinterpret and remember what they want- like a bunch of the pro medial marijuana websites have been doing- to our mutual frustration.

Basically in this new statement to some paper, obama said he would end medical marijuana dispensiary raids and that if marijuana was prescribed like other medicines and controlled by the FDA then we should consider it.

My response is:
1.  How can you say yes you'd stop the raids and then qualify that with bullshit that is beyond your control (prescriptions) and shit that isn't currently consistant with that position (FDA approval/reg and prescriptions?
2.  Marijuana is not prescribed outside of research studies, so how could it be prescribed like other drugs?  Is obama ignorant or is he playing off the public's ignorance of the legal status of MM?
3.  Marijuana is not approved nor able to be approved for the FDA for prescription as it is a controlled substance and hasn't been approved internally.

So while it seems OBAMA did infact say he'd stop the raids, he qualified that with "we should consider it" and other bullshit that is presently not in existance and thus his statement seems like either double speak or straight pandering bullshit.

Is obama ignorant, trying to leave himself an out, or playing of the public's ignorance?

Here's my post with the quote and source I found, printed in a paper in august I believe, so its new- was new to me anyways and I think you given our prior discussions:

johnm214 said:
Okay, I found something I hadn't seen before:

Quote:
Would you stop the DEA's raids on Oregon medical marijuana growers?
I would because I think our federal agents have better things to do, like catching criminals and preventing terrorism. The way I want to approach the issue of medical marijuana is to base it on science, and if there is sound science that supports the use of medical marijuana and if it is controlled and prescribed in a way that other medicine is prescribed, then it's something that I think we should consider.

from some paper

http://wweek.com/editorial/3427/10974/

I guess this is a commitment?

He says "I would" and then says he'd require it to be prescribed and controlled et cet and then it should be considered.

How can you say "I would" and then say "we should consider" in the next breath?  One or the other.

And since marijuana isn't prescribed in the US routinely anywhere, I don't see what he's talking about.

Is he just ignorant?  Does he not know that marijuana is not prescribed and that was the very reason the supreme court ruled the DEA/Feds couldn't revoke licensure from doctors that recomend it to patients?

I guess this is a commitment, and I guess I am wrong and he has commited- despite me never hearing about this before, but I wonder what the rest of the quote is about? Its a yes and no answer, dude.  And putting in that shit about prescriptions and controls really throws me off, plus the "consider it" remark.

1.  It is not prescribed with any frequency and not outside of studies to my knowledge.
2.  It is not controlled like other drugs w/ medical use cuz it is not approved by the FDA or the DEA.

So will he use these wiggle words to get out of it?

Either way, I could imagine a much more meaningful response than "I would" followed by bullshit evidencing either misunderstanding or deceit.

Anyone else have a take on this?

I'd note that other commentators have not taken Obama's statement to be a commitment to anything, and have infered his wiggle room words to amount to a nonstatement.  WHile I don't know if I buy this, his commitment was clear, I wonder if Obama will actually follow through on the "I would" or defer to the bullshit he said later?

Quote:
I'll note that Obama neither pledged nor refused to do anything. He merely said he would review the science. I'm looking forward to debate on this issue, and hope it can be done maturely, without hyperbole or stale war-on-drugs rhetoric.

Another policy of Obama's that I like is health insurance coverage. McCain's health insurance policy of giving 5000 back in the form of a tax cut to families simply won't be enough for me, especially since I do not have any income to tax to begin with. I need major surgery that I cannot have for the next 6 years because I am an independent who cannot work in a job that provides health insurance because of my classes. The condition will not kill me but it will make my life a living hell for the next few years. Obama's health insurance plan is much more comprehensive than McCain's.

Another clear policy difference between Obama and McCain is pro-choice vs. pro-life. My wife and I are young and taking all proper birth control measures, but if she gets pregnant, we both want to have the option of abortion open to us.

Another clear policy difference about Obama that I like is the ability for college students to get 4000 a year as long as they put time in a social betterment program. I already do this and it would make student loans a hell of a lot easier to pay for.

supporter to me, a vote for obama is a vote for more war!

The Iraq War, also known as the Second Gulf War or the War in Iraq is an ongoing military campaign which began on March 20, 2003

Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2003. After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.

Obama on O'Reilly, eh?

That's interesting.

I'm curious if Billo will show him even a modicum of respect or if he will treat him as he does any other guest he disagrees with.
