Mushrooms not "cracker dry"?
    #882140 - 09/13/02 02:29 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Hello, I dried a few (about 3) mushrooms under a fan for around 6 hours or so, and then put them in a desiccant chamber. But, they aren't "cracker dry"... They aren't "moist" per se, but they're flexible.

So, they're not cracker dry (they're flexible, mostly), but they don't smell like they're rotting or anything.

I'm just wondering if it's likely that there's something wrong with them. I don't /think/ so, but I thought it would be best to check.

There's nothing wrong with 'em yet, but there will be if you don't get 'em "CRACKER DRY". :grin:

If I am reading this the way you mean it, the way they feel right now is how they should be when you remove them from fanning and put them in the dessicant chamber. Just like the growing, you cant rush the drying.

I would put them back in the drying chamber til they are "cracker dry"

Good luck

Well, I put them under the fan for a little while longer and that didn't make a difference. They're under a fan right now, as a matter of fact.

I wonder if they'll ever be "cracker dry".

Is it not possible to have dry mushrooms that are not brittle?

No. It is not possible to have totally dry mushrooms that aren't brittle...

I've asked it before and I'll ask it again;

Can you bend a cracker?
